Nothing But A Heartache – (Chapter: The Birthday Girl)

The crowd sings happy birthday as Kyla brings out the birthday cake. Kyla sets the cake down on one of the table.

Kyla: So Ash, make a wish.

Ashley eyes look up and meet Spencer’s. Ashley keeps her eyes on Spencer for a few seconds, then leans down, and blows out the birthday candles. After the birthday cake Ashley opened a few presents and then the party continued.

Ashley and Spencer are standing at the bar.

Spencer: So I have a present for you.

Spencer pulls out a box from her purse and hands it to Ashley.

Ashley: Spence you didn’t have to do this.

    Spencer: I wanted to.

Ashley opens the box and inside is a silver pendant of a music note.

    Ashley: Oh Spence, it’s beautiful.

Ashley takes the necklace out of the box and holds it up.

Ashley: Will you put it on me?

    Spencer: Yeah sure.

I hand the necklace to Spencer. I lift up my hair and turn around so Spencer can put the necklace on me. While she was trying to hook the clasp her hand lightly touched my neck and it felt like lightning. After she put the necklace on I felt her hand linger on my neck. She began to run her fingers down my neck and then across my shoulders. I took in a deep breath and I couldn’t stop the shivers that ran up and down my body. I let my hair fall back down and turn to face her.

We stood there face to face not wanting to look away from each other. This was the feeling I was afraid of. This is why Spencer scares the hell out of me. I always knew that sooner or later, in a moment like this, I wouldn’t be able to stop my feelings for her. Spencer takes her hand and puts it up to my cheek. I close my eyes and take in this moment.

I open in my eyes and her blue eyes captivate me once again. I needed to feel her, I need to touch her. My heart takes over the fear and I begin to lean in to kiss her. As I’m leaning into her someone in the crowd catches my eye. I instantly take a second look into the crowd to see if my eyes are deceiving me. Spencer notices my somewhat anxious manner.

    Spencer: Ash what is it?

My eyes stayed on the group of people but focused in on just one person. It was who I thought it was and I couldn’t believe it.

    Ashley: Sorry, I-

They keep walking toward me and Spencer follows my gaze to the person who is now just a foot away.

    ???: Hey Ash. Happy Birthday.
