“So Spence, how about you and I try to get away with getting freaky in the hospital room?” Ashley grabbed onto the blonde’s belt loops with her fingers and wiggled her brows suggestively.
“You’re so cute when you try so hard but know that it isn’t going to happen.” Spencer said as she kissed Ashley’s nose.
“Spencer, my shoulder hurts. Kiss it and make it better.” Ashley pouted. Spencer rolled her eyes but leaned down and kissed Ashley gently on her shoulder. “Spence, my lips hurt.” Spencer gently kissed Ashley’s lips. “Spence, my…” She stopped herself and signaled Spencer to come closer. She whispered what was ‘hurting’ into Spencer’s ear.
Spencer jumped back and laughed. “I’m not kissing that in a hospital room.”
“It was worth a shot.” Ashley joked before Paula came in the room. Spencer and Ashley stopped laughing and went silent. “I would offer to leave you two alone, but I’m kind of stuck in the bed right now.”
“It’s okay Ashley. Everything I have to say to Spencer, I want you to hear it too.” Paula explained. “Spencer, I see where our relationship is headed and I don’t like it. I want to be there with you and I want to be there for you, but it was hard for me knowing I was losing you to a girl. Especially considering it is against everything I believe in.”
Neither Spencer nor Ashley knew where this was headed. They were frightened because Paula could easily turn this into another ‘I will stop you from being gay’ crusade.
Paula continued, “I don’t want you to be one of those daughters who hate me because of something I did. So as far as the ‘no Ashley’ rule goes, it’s canceled.” Paula finished with a slow out take of breath.
“How do I know you really mean it? I mean you’ve said that once before, and you lied.”
“There is no way to tell that I’m being honest except to trust me on it and wait for the outcome.”
Spencer was silent a beat. “What if I’m not willing to take that chance?”
Paula was silent. She didn’t know what to say. She was hoping that it wasn’t too late to salvage their relationship, but maybe she was wrong.
