My smile falters with you – (Chapter: three’s a crowd)

“Soph.” She turned around to hear who was calling her and saw Ashley walking to catch up with her. “Why you running off?”

“Um, I’m not I’ve got to she Stevenson.”

“Yes and under usual circumstances I would believe you.”

“But?” Did she know? Could she sense the way Soph looked at her.

“His office is that way.” she pointed behind her and arched an eyebrow. “So what’s with you running off?”

“It’s nothing.” Sophia shook her head for being found out.

“Well it’s something because you bolted out there so quickly, if I had blinked I would have missed you.”

“Seriously Ash, I have to go.”

“Not till you tell me what’s wrong, maybe I can help.” She was generally concerned, she cared about Soph a lot, they got on so well and their had been an instant comfortable atmosphere to them. She was beautiful and funny and there was something about her that made Ashley want to get to know her. A few of her daydreams during her classes had been about the pair of them, she hadn’t planned these thoughts they had just sort of taken her by surprise.

“No I don’t think so, you’re probably the last person who could help.” All she wanted to do at that moment was run away from this situation before she said stuff that she could not take back. “Look I have to go Ashley.”

“You don’t have to, tell me what’s going on? Why can’t I help?” She was starting to feel helpless, it was clear to see her friend was in pain and the idea that she couldn’t help broke her heart.

“I don’t want to do this here and now.”

    “Do what? Soph…”

“It will ruin everything.” She could feel the tears that wanted to escape to her tanned cheeks.

“Just talk to me please, we can sort it out together.”

    “No we can’t.”

“I don’t want to see you like this, you’re my friend.”

“That’s my problem.” Sophia said as a single tear rolled down her face.

“That I want to be there for you?” Ashley was now confused.

“No that we are friends.” She realised that it must of sounded like she was talking in riddles but her mind was having trouble catching up to the situation that was evolving around her. “I can’t.” And with that she took off in another direction leaving Ashley standing alone watching the girl leave, having trouble understand what had just happened. The bell sounded telling her that she would have to wait till tonight tonight to find out what was going on.

“What was that about?” Spencer asked as they walked to their next lesson.

“I wish I knew.” Ashley raised her eyebrows lost in her own mind and Spencer could feel that she wasn’t get the girls full attention. There was the feeling again…Jealousy
