Spencer raised her hand and asked if she could be excused to the nurse because she was not feeling well. And since Spencer never got in trouble the teacher let her go. She carefully walked to the parking lot. Occassionally ducking into the shadows and behind random objects. She finally made it to the care and Ashley was quietly waiting for her. She jumped in and Ashley took off.

   "So, what are we doing?"
   "Are you hungry?"
   "I could eat, yeah."
   "Wanna just get a burger or something?"
   "Sounds good."
   "Sweet. But sometime soon we have to hang out in my bed!"
   "Deal. If you’re lucky, I’ll stop by after our family talk."
   "Spence, Spence. "Ashley shook her head back and forth. "I’m already the luckiest person in the world. Yano why?"
   "No, why?"
   "Because" She took ahold of Spencer’s hand. "Because you love me."

Spencer just  blushed and kissed the back of Ashley’s hand. Then she leaned over and kissed Ashley’s cheek.

   "You’re so amazing, you know that?"
   "Yes, yes I am."
   "Ego-maniac" Spencer scoffed jokingly.
   "No, I’m not." Ashley pouted. "I just know how simply amazing I am" Spencer just laughed. They went to an old-fashioned diner and just enjoyed each other’s company.

Spencer walked through her front door with a smile on her face. Ashley honked and drove off.

   "Spencer, is that you?"
   "Yeah, dad."
   "Living room, please."

She walked into the room. Clay and Glen were on the couch with enough room for Spencer to sit in the middle of them. Paula was in a chair on one side of the room and Arthur in one on the other side. She joined her brothers and waited with her arms crossed.

Ok, we’re all here. What’s up?" Glen said impatiently. Arthur sighed. Paula just sat there like it was killing her to be in the house.
   "Kids, your mother and I are getting a divorce."
   "Why?" Spencer asked calmly.
   "Well, you’re mother and I-"
   "No, dad. Not you. I’m asking her. Why?"
   "Why do you assume it’s me?"
   "Because you’re sitting over there like you can’t wait to get out of this house. Because dad’s the one that had to tell us. Because you’re always at ‘work’ "Spencer used air quotes around the word work. "And you can’t look any of us in the eyes." Arthur and the boys were shocked. But Arthur was proud that Spencer could read people and situations so well.
   "Because I’m in lovew with somebody else."
   "Is that all this family talk is about?" Spencer stood up.
   "Also about custody of you guys. You kids get to choose who you would like to live with."
   "So, I can go, right? I mean because ya’ll should know who I’m going to live with." Spencer said with venom.
   "Yes, honey, you can go. Just be home by 11:30"
   "K, dad. Love ya, bye."
