    Chapter Twelve: Let Go

     

    Ashley watched the resting face of Spencer from her seat on the edge of the couch. The girl looked so peaceful when she was sleeping, her brows relaxed and lips parted ever so slightly. She shut her eyes and leaned back into the chair, the morning light that poured through the window warming her bare legs. It had been a long night, but it was definitely worth it. Talking Spencer back into the house had been more difficult than you would think, considering the circumstances. She smiled a bit to herself as she recalled it, letting her mind replay the events.


    “I’m not afraid.” Spencer objected, sounding like a child being called a chicken for not wanting to perform some ridiculous stunt.

    “Then what’s wrong? I can tell you want this, just as much as I do.” She was being particularly blunt tonight, but she was at her wits end here. It was frustrating to be longing for something and being told she couldn’t have it. Or in this case, someone.

    “What’s wrong?” The blonde replied incredulously, eyes widening as she stared at Ashley like she was completely insane.

    “Okay, so maybe the circumstances are a bit less than convenient, but I don’t see why that should stop us.” It was clear by the way her eyes caught the light in the dark just how much she couldn’t comprehend Spencer’s trepidation, “Just let go already.”

    “…I can’t.” Being a woman, Spencer had the ability to go from one emotion to another in a matter of seconds, and suddenly she appeared as if she was going to cry. Her stance shrunk considerably, her hand lifting to her face as she tied to swallow the lump in her throat down.

    “Spencer…” Ashley spoke quietly, taking a step forward and closing her arms around the suddenly very fragile appearing blonde. To her amazement, Spencer didn’t pull away. Instead she leaned into the warmth and comfort of the other girls arms, her body trembling somewhat.

    “I want to let go… I do…” She muttered into Ashley’s shoulder, too upset to notice her tears her staining her shirt, “But I can’t.”

    “Shh….” The girl soothed, rocking her body side to side as she attempted to calm Spencer down. She hated it when people cried, especially people she genuinely cared about. All she could concentrate on was how to make them stop, “It’s going to be okay. Your going to be okay.” She whispered into her ear, her eyes shutting as she prayed her words were true.

    4. i love this story so much and im glad that spence is realizing her obvious feelings for ash. and even tho i agree that she has no loyalties to sarah, she does need some time. it just wouldnt be right to jump into a relationship so quickly..it would be all rebound-y. i really love how you portray spencers feeligns and hesitations because they are so realistic and real to life
