Kidnap My Heart – (Chapter: 7: Labor Day Weekend)

    Labor Day Weekend

"Spence!" I hear my mom yell from downstairs, "we gotta go soon." It’s that time of the year where my family and I go on our camping trip but this time Ashley and Kyla will be joining us. I’m kind of excited but somewhat nervous because I’m planning on telling my parents Ashley and I are dating.
I put on soccer pants and a tank top and I’m ready to go. I know, so not attractive.
"What took you so long?" Glen annoyingly asks me. He’s so prepared for the weekend, I can’t even…no.
"What? Ass." I roll my eyes at him. A few seconds later I see Ashley and Kyla walking towards me. Ashley’s wearing these short shorts that accentuates her long, tan legs and a white cut-off shirt with a cross on it. God she looks amazing, it makes me want to pounce.
"Sup boo." Ashley greets as she comes toward me for a tight hug. I feel her lips brush lightly against my ear and I’m pretty sure she felt me shiver. But really, ‘sup boo’ Ash?
"Hey Spence, thanks again for inviting us. I’m so pumped for this! Whoooo!" Kyla’s throws her hands in the air for excitement. I went to Ashley’s house last night just to get them ready for the weekend and Kyla suggested they build their tent so it wouldn’t be complicated trying to do it for the first time. I obviously was entertained throughout the whole process. Poor Ashley cannot build a tent to save her life; her frustration grew and grew as she tried helping Kyla set up the tent. I guess she’s not meant for the woods. Kyla did most of everything because I guess she read books on how to camp. How can you not laugh at that?!
"Good morning ladies! Nice to see you on this fine morning!" My dad greeted and Ashley exhales a yawn that she tried to keep in. She must be tired from all the kissing and wrestling (technically we weren’t really wrestling, we were just messing around) we did last night before I went home and after she gave up on the tent.
"Are we all set?" My mom asks my dad while she opens the door to the passenger seat.
He answers, "Yeah let’s hit the road!" And puts on his Aviator sunglasses and starts the engine.
"YEAH CAMPING!!!" Glen shouts eagerly as he climbs into the back seat.
"Your brother seems really excited…and awake." My beautiful brunette says to me while Kyla gets into the back seat behind Glen. (Our car is an eight seater)
"Yeah, sorry about that and last night…" I smile seductively and I see a smirk appear on Ashley’s face before we both climb into the car. The drive to Bear Lake took at least three hours because of the LA traffic and people trying to get out of the city since it’s a long weekend. I sat in the middle of Kyla and Ashley in the back of car behind Glen. Fifteen minutes on the road and Ashley is knocked out with her head on my shoulder; her soft breathing is making my heart tickle.
"Ash couldn’t sleep after you left." Kyla leans in my ear. "She kept pacing in my room."
I furrow my brow and start to wonder why she didn’t call or text when she couldn’t sleep because she usually would.
"Do you know why?" I whispered to Kyla hoping the sleeping girl on my shoulder wouldn’t wake.
"No clue." She smiles like she secretly knows something.
"You know something!" My eyes grow big at Kyla’s secret.
"Just don’t tell Ash you know I know something." Kyla giggles and goes back to reading her book. What could she possibly know that I don’t? Was it bad? I tried not to think about the short conversation Kyla and I had during the drive.
"We’re here!" I hear my dad yell from the front seat.
I wake up from my nap to find myself resting on a very tan shoulder.
"You were dreaming about me ya know. Hence the drool." I see Ashley’s smirk.
"I DID NOT DROOL!" I’m almost shouting now.
"It’s okay Spence, I mean I get it, you want a piece of this." She’s still smirking. How could I not resist that smirk? I play it cool and just roll my eyes at her.
We all get out of the car and proceed to set up the tents and what not. The scent of the Forrest lingered in the air reminding me of my life back in Ohio. There were other people on the camping grounds but not near us.
I walk towards to where my parents and Glen are to see if they need help but I can see it’s an easier task for them.
"You should go help Kyla and Ashley," my dad laughs as he connects one part of the tent to the other, "they seem to be struggling." I look over my shoulder and I can’t help but giggle.
"Ash, you’re doing it wrong…Again!" Kyla yells and places her hands on her hips with frustration.
"You do it then!" Ashley steps closer to me.
"I’ll help you Kyla" I step forward smirking at Ashley. It didn’t take that long with Kyla’s skills and my experience…Wait that sounds nasty, hah oops. So the sleeping arrangements are my mom and dad in one tent, Glen in his, and me, Kyla, and Ashley in their tent. I’ll be honest; we spent the day doing nothing besides lounging around. My dad and Glen went fishing for some bonding time. Surprisingly, that’s what we ate for dinner but I could tell Ashley didn’t like it; she’s not much of a fish person. The sun was setting and Kyla asked me if we were doing s’mores.
"S’mores are so delicious!" Ashley licks the leftover marshmallow on her finger. "I’m gonna need another one."
"Ash, you just ate four." Kyla mocks Ashley while she hands her the s’more set-up.
"Spence…" I look up and meet with Ashley’s dark brown eyes, "you have marshmallow on your lip" she points out.
I lick my lips to get the marshmallow off, "Is it still there?"
"Yeah, let me." Ashley leans over with our noses barely touching and takes her thumb to wipe the remnants of the marshmallow off. I’m pretty sure I started blushing because my whole face felt hot. "I…I got it." She stutters. Ashley’s smirking now, "you’re welcome" and leans back into the chair. I smile seductively at her; gosh she’s so hot.
Five s’mores later, my dad tells our traditionally scary story about a couple who’s car stopped working and how the boyfriend went to look for help and minutes later, the girlfriend finds her boyfriends leg knocking against the car. That story use to scare me as a child but I think it scared Ashley. My parents put out the fire and made sure out food was kept away so the bears didn’t come looking for it. It was I, Kyla, and Ashley in one tent and my parents and Glen in the other. The tent Kyla and Ashley bought is actually huge. It can fit at least six people in here but I guess Ashley’s stuff makes up for two people. I’m changing into my pajamas and hear Kyla and Ashley’s banter.
"Good thing my headphones are the noise canceling kind," Kyla chuckles at Ashley making me laugh a bit, "goodnight guys" and she gets into her purple sleeping bag and turns to her side. Ashley and I combined our sleeping bags to make one huge one-we used my sleeping bag to sleep on and hers as a blanket.
"Camping’s starting to have its benefits," Ashley looks up at me and smiles, "except for the story your dad told." I can’t help but let out a giggle.
"You do realize it’s not true." Her arm slips around my waist and she pulls me closer to her as I’m tracing her jaw line with my index finger.
"How do you know?! The killer could be out there…"
"It’s a made up story from a book Glen check out in the library seven years ago." I explain to her.
"Oh." Ashley starts kissing me and I moan into her mouth. "You gotta be quiet," she whispers. She pauses for a few seconds, "let’s go outside real quick." I grab my sweatshirt and slip on my flip-flops and make our way out of the tent. Ashley’s wearing a UCLA sweatshirt and black gym shorts and she still looks flawless.
"The bears aren’t gonna get us right? And the guy who chops off people’s legs?!"
I can’t help but laugh at her cuteness, "No babe, they’re not."
"They better not! I’m too hot to be killed right now!" Ashley stays quiet for a few seconds just looking up at the star filled sky; I wonder what she’s thinking about…or whom. "You think he’s up there?" She’s still looking up with her hands in the pockets of the sweatshirt. "My dad I mean."
I stand closer to her and hold onto her arm, "Yeah Ash, I think he is."
"You know, he told me once that a star would bring you true love no matter what, kinda like how the North Star would always bring a lost sailor home…" She’s looking at me now, her brown eyes stare into mine and her hands in mine.  We’re surrounded by darkness and the only light we have are the stars. I think she’s about to say those three words until we hear rustling in the bushes near us. We look over to see what and I are praying it’s not a bear or another vicious creature. Ashley’s in front of me with her arm across my body, trying to shield me from whatever is in the bushes. The animal jumps out and runs in the opposite direction of where we are, heading somewhere else…Guys, it was a freaking deer. It was just Bambi.
"I almost had a heart attack." Ashley takes deep breaths and places her hand on her chest.
"Were you going to say something?" I ask her ignoring the cold around us.
"Oh." She looks down and runs her hand through her hair and I can tell she’s hesitating. "Spence, I’ve never felt this way about anyone…ever. You just…I don’t even know how to explain it." Ashley’s eyes are planted on the ground. I know how she feels because I feel it too. She made me fall for her and her she is about to tell me how she feels and Ashley freezes. I wrap my arms around her neck staring into her eyes.
"I love you, Ashley…I am so in love with you."
Ashley smiles at hearing my words, "I love you, Spencer. I’m so in love with you, it’s ridiculous." She kisses me like there’s no tomorrow and it completely takes my breath away. Our lips pull away but our arms are still wrapped around each other.
"We should go back to the tent before Kyla gets mauled by a bear." I walk in front of Ashley and I feel a slap on my butt. "You have a nice ass." She smiles and I can’t help but laugh.
