It Was Suppose to be Special – (Chapter: Six)

“Yeah?” as I just sit there on my bed, not once moving a muscle.

My eyes are glued to the wall as he walks in.

    “Spence?”

I lower my head then finally look to my door.

    “You need anything?”

Did I? I needed something. I just didn’t know what.

I shook my head as my eyes take their position back on the wall.

My dad came closer to me, sitting next to me on my bed. From the corner of my eye I could see that he was looking at the wall also.

“That was a good day wasn’t it?” he said quietly.

Okay so we weren’t just looking at the wall. It was a picture. It was a picture of all of us one day at the park. We were in Ohio…the day before we left to our new home, new life in L.A.

I nodded letting out a little smile as I remembered us playing basketball. Glen was upset because Clay and I went against him. It was all fun in the end, of course.

I’m going to miss that day the most. After that day…we didn’t spend as much time as we used to.

My dad slid his arm around me as I lay gently into him.

“I still feel…like he’s just going to come through the door and…” I choked a little bit, “ask us what’s wrong or something?”

My dad giggled a bit. Clay was always asking if everything was okay with us. He was our backbone.

He squeezed me tighter, “Everything is going to be okay, Spence.”

    I believe him.

    “Hey.”

We both looked to Glen in the doorway, now walking slowly towards us. He looks so worn out, bags under his eyes and a five o’clock shadow as he glances at us both then at the picture.

He sits down beside my dad and my dad squeezes his knee gently as we are all now looking at it.

“What are you guys looking at?”

Well look who comes in to complete this perfect Kodak moment.

    “Hey mom”
