"Ich Liebe Dich" – (Chapter: Somewhere Over The Rainbow)
Franzi blew a kiss from her palm as the audience applauded. When the crowd heard the rhythm to the music on the piano and the guitar, Franzi started to sing New Edition’s "Earth Angel" in English. A minute and a half after the song started, Franzi held out her hand for Paula and continued singing.
Franzi’s face asked, ‘Do you wanna dance?’
Paula stood, smiled, and took single steps toward Franzi. The people made a line for her to walk through. When Paula was at the stage floor, Franzi signaled Paula to come up. Paula took Franzi’s hand and they locked eyes together. Franzi kept singing to Paula as the audience watched and danced. Then Paula stepped onstage and joined Franzi body-to-body, face-to-face, heart-to-heart.
‘Earth Angel. Earth Angel. Will you be mine? My darling dear. Love you all the time. I’m just a fool. A fool in love with you.’ Franzi layed her head on Paula’s shoulder. Paula remembered their fights as friends and adversaries and she knew that it was all out of love.
Franzi looked into Paula’s eyes as she continued, ‘Earth Angel. Earth Angel. Please be mine. My darling dear. Love you all the time. I’m just a fool. A fool in love with you. I fell for you and I knew the vision of your loveliness. I hope and I pray that someday that I’ll be the vision of your happiness.’ This made Paula remember her walking in on Franzi in just a shower towel and trying to help her out of the drug addiction.
‘Oh Earth Angel. Earth Angel. Please be mine. My darling dear. Love you all the time. I’m just a fool. A fool in love with you. You. You. You. You. Earth Angel, yeah. Earth Angel. Will you be mine?’ All the lyrics made Paula sink sadly and happily in love with Franzi. When the music started to ease down, Paula found herself looking into Franzi’s eyes. Then she moved her face to Franzi’s left ear and whispered, ‘Ich Liebe Dich, Franzi.’ Then she looked back at Franzi’s face.
Franzi let a tear go down her face as she smiled and said, ‘Ich Liebe Dich auch, Paula.’
Michael said, ‘Allright now. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the kind of love we want here at The Rainbow. You know, love is what love is. Now we’re gonna give these two lovebirds a chance to cool down and we’ll keep the rhythm going. Right now, we got a little something I know you’re gonna love. It’s a piece of showbiz history. Let’s give all due respect and attention to the hit from "Dirty Dancing", Richard Marx’s "Hungry Eyes".’ Then the audience applauded.
