    Spencer gets a surprise.

    “Because I know this kind of stuff freaks you out,” she said simply, as if I had just asked her what her name was. She was willing to at least temporarily put our issues aside to be there for me. When did Ashley become so noble, so mature? She was almost an entirely different person from when I first met her; yet still, she was totally the same. If that made sense. But she had definitely grown a lot and the words she just spoke were a true testament to that. If I had been in her shoes, it would have taken a lot to get me out here tonight.

    “Thank you,” I told her, my voice quivering.

    “What time is wakeup?”

    “We’re, um… we’re meeting for breakfast at 8… I put in a… a 7:15 wakeup call,” I stammered.

    “Alright, well in that case, I’m going to sleep.” She looked around the room, as though to check that there really wasn’t anywhere else she could sleep besides the bed. There was a couch in the room, but it was obviously decorative and looked uncomfortable. She then pulled back the covers on the side I hadn’t been sleeping on and got into bed; I followed suit. It was pure torture, knowing I was in a bed with her and I couldn’t touch her or kiss her, or even talk to her. But I figured she should at least know how I felt.

    “I love you, Ashley,” I told her. All I got in response was a light snore; she had fallen asleep. I closed my eyes, preventing the tears from spilling down my face, and tried to fall asleep. But all I could think about was her.

    I was actually surprised by Spencer’s initial reaction to seeing me at the door. Coming to the hotel was not as difficult of a decision as it sounds like it would be. I knew how poorly Spencer dealt with her mom’s illness and at the very least, we were best friends, regardless of the problems we were having… so clearly, I had to be there. Not to mention the fact that I was still in love with her… but… whatever.

    The wakeup call woke me up and I realized that Spencer had not only awoken before me, but had showered, gotten dressed, and was typing on her laptop. She glanced over at me nervously as I got out of bed.

    23. I personally think that Ashley forgave Spencer to easily…but I think I know why. Could it be that Ashley’s in a hurry to get Spencer back to the hotel room so they can have table top clearing sex and expel their pent up sexual energy? I mean, not that I’m pushing for that to happen next chapter. I for one would be completely happy if Spencer and Ashley went back to the hotel room and played Scrabble (hmm, if I continue to tell myself this I just might start to believe it). Go ahead girls, ride that bed off into the sunset! Please, someone pray that I’ll get my hormones under control in this millennium. Respect to Paula for being the bigger person and acknowledging that the way she treated Ashley was wrong. Your chapters still rock, Kozmic. Please post soon!
