Grace on Fire – (Chapter: The Fury)
The description had taken a hold of him. He sat there blinking with his hand still around his cup of whatever it was that he was drinking. “Wow.”
“That’s it? Wow? That’s all you have to say?”
“Well give me a minute to process this! This is a big thing.”
“You process, I’m going over to Jessie’s Music Emporium.” Standing up from her chair, she quickly made sure that the flask was safely within her jacket pocket again and straightened out her red Rolling Stones t-shirt with ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ scrawled on the bottom of it. “I’ll see you later.”
Black Converse Chuck Taylor’s, black jeans, black leather jacket, wavy brown hair bouncing with each step, Ashley wasn’t the usual patron of the Beverly Center but she didn’t care. The mall was a testament to the ingenuity of the human mind and the materialism of the human heart. Fashionably dressed manikins posed in windows, tempting the buyer with their inanimate appeal. ‘Be me. Be the lifeless embodiment of chic and cool. Be the temptress, be the stud, be the stereotype.’ The plastic statues seemed to scream.
It shouldn’t have bothered her. She wasn’t human, this wasn’t her problem. But it did bother her in a way. It nagged the back of her mind sometimes and she didn’t understand why. She never understood why. There was no evidence to support that the other minions of hell thought the way she did, experienced things like her. They didn’t dream, but she did. They didn’t care, but she did. They didn’t wake up everyday for thousands upon thousands of years wondering what was missing in their lives… but she did.
There was a reason why Ashley Davies was the impulsive, belligerent, constantly agitated legend in the 9 circles. It was because she had to do something to stop herself from feeling so damn much. Though it worked, it still wasn’t enough. If anything was proof of that it was her dog and that strange sensation she felt when she saw that girl from the club.
‘I need to stop thinking about her. She was just another mortal. A hot mortal, but still a mortal.’ Her rational mind reasoned. It wasn’t the first time a girl had stuck out in her mind but they never held her attention like this… It was disconcerting to say the least.
