Face Your Fears – (Chapter: Chapter 1: Two Years)

“That’s it!” I yell as I slam my fist into the steering wheel. She jumps at my sudden anger filled outburst that broke our extremely not too comfortable silence.

“I know you’re high and more than likely drunk as well, and that’s why you called me and woke me up at 3 something in the morning to pick your sorry ass up. You’re obviously too messed up to drive anywhere. But, the least you could do is answer the one question I asked you. If not to calm my worried mind, then at least so I’ll be able to tell the paramedics or, hey, maybe even the county mortician, what your drug or, from the looks of it, DRUGS of choice are!” I scream at her.

I look right at her and my blood immediately runs cold. The old Ashley would have shown signs of guilt for waking me up or being rude, and started to apologize and joke around with me to make me smile. But this new, dark sinister Ashley is looking as though she wants to rip my throat out. She narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips before calmly but stiffly turning back to the window. The rest of the ride was silent, until we pulled to a stop in her driveway. I was expecting her to jump out of my car and all but run inside. Instead she just sat there with her jaw clenched. She was stewing over what she wanted to say that had been with her ever since the red light. When Ashley stewed like this the result was one of two things: she was going to say something profoundly and unexpectedly sweet or she was about to light into you and rip you a new asshole. Not once had I been on the receiving end of the latter option… that is until tonight.

“Fuck you!” she seethed in a low menacing voice, her lips curled into a hateful sneer.

    “Wha-? Excuse me?!”

I am at a complete loss of words.

“You heard me! I said fuck you Spencer! I don’t take shit from anyone, especially not from dumb blonde bimbo like you!”

Every word was laced with such venom that I think I actually saw some drip from her teeth. I was trying to convince myself it’s just the drugs but she sounds so hateful.
