Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch. 9: Well, Who Have We Here?)
“Amazingly fun.” Ashley finished for her.
“Totally. But I can’t get detention, again! My parents will kill me!”
“Yeah. Strope probably pushed the call button to the office. Our best bet is to book it.” Ashley said, looking around.
“Yeah, I gues—Oh, shit…”
“What?”
Spencer pointed to two of the policemen that usually stayed on campus that had just rounded the corner.
“Oh, fuck! Spence, split up and meet me at my car!”
“What!?”
“RUN!” Ashley yelled as she ran one direction.
The policemen started to sprint in her direction. Spencer’s eyes widened and she bolted in the opposite direction from Ashley.
“Hey! Get back here!” one of the men yelled, “Crap! You take that one and I’ll get this one.” His partner nodded, and ran in Ashley’s direction, while the one speaking ran after the blonde.
Fuck, fuck, fuck! They take everything so damn seriously, here! It was just a little screwing around and we’ve got on-campus police after us! Spencer was running across the quad and looking over her shoulder periodically. The man was gaining, and she couldn’t run much longer. He was about three yards away, when she got an idea. She turned her path and ran to the nearest trashcan. Grabbing the can by the rim, Spencer hurled it on its side behind her.
Before the policeman could change course or skid to a stop he tripped over the trashcan, and flipped onto his back.
Spencer grimaced, but continued to run. Only a little ways to Ashley’s car, she thought triumphantly. A little ways into the distance she could see Ashley sidestep the other man, and shove him into the janitor’s closet, shoving another trash can against the door. She shot the blonde a quick look and a thumbs up before she bolted, again.
Spencer chuckled to herself, and looked behind her. The policeman that was after her started to slowly get up. “Shit,” she muttered to herself, before she picked up the pace, again. She was going to be in so much trouble…the thing was, however…she didn’t care. She was having the time of her life.
She was too busy looking behind her to realize that she was about to run into a table dead on. She snapped her head back forward to catch it just in time, but she didn’t have time to skid to a stop or veer a different direction. Out of random instinct she kept full speed and jumped onto the bench of the table and then hopped onto the table top. She kept her running pace and jumped off of the table, landing with a loud thud before she ran off, again.
“Holy shit! Talk about mad skills,” she said to herself, amazed.
She grabbed a pole and rounded the corner. She was almost home free, but that was when she collided with a slightly smaller figure, sending herself and the person to the ground.
God, that happens WAY too much! “Oh, my God, I’m so sorry!” Spencer apologized hysterically, not bothering to look at the person, but lunging for the dropped books, right away.
“No, no, it’s okay. My fault…I, uh, wasn’t looking out for…people running for their lives?” Spencer didn’t look up, but she could the voice was female.
“Oh, yeah, ha-ha, I just got into trouble, and I had to book it.” the blonde picked up the books and herself from the ground.
“Does that happen often?” the voice asked. Spencer could tell the person was smiling.
“Uh, no, not ever, actually I—” she looked up to see the person for the first time. For some reason she reminded the blonde of Ashley, “So cute…” she whispered to herself.
“What?” the brown haired girl asked.
Spencer shook her head, “N-nothing. Why aren’t you in class?”
The girl laughed, “I’m new here. Just getting’ my books and goin’.” she pointed to the books in Spencer’s arms.
“Oh, yeah, sorry.” Spencer handed the books over to her, “You’re new here?” the girl nodded, “Well, I’m kinda on the lamb, right now, but if you ever need any help getting around you should look me up. I could help.”
“Really? Thanks! That would help a lot!”
“Oh, it’s no problem at all. I know what’s it like to be new,” Spencer held out a hand, “Spencer Carlin.”
The girl accepted the hand and shook, “Kyla Woods.”
