Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch.18: Sleepwear is not for Swimming)

“That’s actually what I wanted to talk to you about,” Spencer said as she got up and sat down next to the brunette.

    “Huh?”

“Well, my dad told me the plans, and I wasn’t as happy about it as I thought I would be.”

“Why not?” Ashley asked and she put her hand on the small of the blonde’s back and started rubbing small circles.

Spencer rested her head on the other girl’s shoulder, “Because I’d miss you too much.”

The brunette sighed, “It’s only two weeks, though, right? I think we could manage to be without each other for that long.”

“Speak for yourself,” Spencer scoffed and she lifted her head from the girl’s shoulder. “Besides, I wasn’t done with my story.”

“Ooh, more story time with Spencer,” Ashley joked.

The blonde rolled her eyes and playfully swatted her girlfriend on the shoulder, “Right so when my dad told me I didn’t immediately start jumping for joy. I think he saw that I was kinda upset so he said, ‘Spence, if you want, I think Ashley should come along with us.’”

Ashley’s eyes widened and she turned to look Spencer in the eye, “Me? Come with you to Ohio? And this was your dad’s idea?”

    “Uh huh.”

“Oh, God, he knows,” the brunette groaned as she fell to her back dramatically. “I don’t know how, but he knows.” She pointed and accusatory finger up at the other girl, “What did you tell him?” she demanded.

Spencer laughed and smacked the girl’s hand away, “Nothing. I haven’t said anything.” She pulled the brunette back up to a sitting position and looked her in the eye, “Look, my dad’s not stupid, Ashley. And you’re right, I think he does know, but he hasn’t said anything.”

    “He been acting different?”

“No, not really. I think he’s just waiting for me to tell him. I’ve been these strange vibes from him and he keeps saying that I can talk to him about anything.” Spencer shrugged, “I don’t think he would care if I told him about us.”

“Yeah, your dad’s cool, Spence. It’s just your mom. And I don’t think I could handle two weeks with your mom. She might set me ablaze with her eyes,” Ashley shuddered.

The blonde laughed, “Yeah, maybe, but you’re always saying how you wanna get away from here, so here’s you chance.” She smirked, “Even if for only a short time.”

“True. Alright, well we have a month to decide what we’re going to do.” Ashley scrunched up her nose, “Just promise that your mom won’t murder me in my sleep if I do go?”

Spencer shook her head with a smile as she stood. She offered a hand out to the other girl, “I can’t make any promises.”
