    Can Ashley fix it?

    Ashley ran out of the back door into the darkness and gave her eyes a second to adjust. It was darker than she thought it would be.

    Well, duh, genius, she scolded herself, the fuckin’ power’s out.

    She squinted into the night. The fact that the moon was hidden behind the clouds didn’t help much. Full moon, too. Creepy. Once her sight registered to where she could at least a foot in front of herself, she stepped further out to where she was in the middle of her driveway.

    Small droplets of water started to fall on her head. “Fuck,” she cursed. To add to the misery, it was fucking raining! Not too hard, but not soft either. She pulled up her hood, covering her head and ran to the very edge of her driveway looking both ways frantically.

    “Which way would she go?” she asked herself out loud. She pounded a fist to her forehead multiple times, so she would think harder. Faster.

    “The beach,” she said softly. She pushed off on her right foot and ran left. Spencer wouldn’t make it to the beach, but the brunette knew she’d try.

    She couldn’t remember the last time she ran so fast. It was almost as if she was running for her dear life. Honestly, she was running for her life. Spencer was her life. She was running for her, and she’d die trying.

    Her breathing was becoming labored, and her chest constricted painfully. She pushed through the pain. Didn’t dare stop. How far had Spencer gotten? Did she really fuck up so bad that the blonde sprinted as far away from her as possible? God, it was all so fucked.

    She breathed heavily through clenched teeth. She couldn’t go much further in a full on sprint. She had to…had to.

    The front of her shoe caught on a crack in the sidewalk and sent her plummeting to the ground. “FUCK!” she yelled as she slammed her fist against the concrete. She got to her feet and her left knee buckled, painfully. She gasped as she caught her balance. Looking down at the area, in the slight moonlight, Ashley saw that she’d ripped a huge hole in her jeans and her knee was bleeding slightly. Just a scrape. She’d live. But God, did it ever hurt.
