Cheer Me Up Thank You – (Chapter: 3)

Right now I was wondering if either Ashley or Aiden knew what the word passion meant.

"So you finally decided to call me back!" Kyla cried down the phone.

I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at how dramatic my sister was being. She must have got it from her mother.

"I’ve just been super busy Ky," I lied believably. "With everything that’s been going on…"

"Liar," Kyla responded quickly, before moving on. "So how was it?"

    "How was what?"

"I don’t care if you’re getting a divorce, stop being such an ass," Kyla complained. I think she’s about the only person in the world that could say something like that to me and get away with it. "How was the meeting with Aiden?"

"It was rockin’. Super cool awesome fun time."

    "You’re such a dick."

I sigh and decide to relent a bit. "It was fine, which in a way made it not so fine."

    "I’m not getting you…"

"Ok, people divorce for a reason right? And usually its because they can’t stand each other or because one is a wank-stain or something. With Aiden and I, there isn’t any of that stuff. We were civil, even friendly in an awkward way."

"Ash you’re a nutter," Kyla replied. "Maybe you just weren’t expecting to get along with Aiden so quickly, but it is definitely a good thing that you are."

"Maybe you’re right." She wasn’t. But I wouldn’t hear the end of it if I said otherwise.

"Always am," she said confidently. "I have to go pick up Jessie. Remember, next Tuesday dinner."

"I’ll have it tattooed to my arm Kyla dear," I reply sarcastically. "I’ll be there, don’t worry. Say hi to Jessie for me."

    "Will do, love you sis."

After hearing the dial tone, I put the phone down and collapsed onto the couch.

    "SIS!"

Resisting the temptation to ignore my brother’s yelling, I made my way over to the front door and opened it slowly.

"Glen it’s two in the morning," I say, trying to stress the tiredness in my voice. But like always, my drunk brother ignored it.

"I thought I’d come pop in for a chat," he explained, pushing his way past me and into my living room. I went to the cupboard and grabbed a sheet and pillow. I’d known him for twenty-six years… he needed a place to crash.

"Glen why are you here?" I ask softly as I hand him the linen. He’s already made himself comfortable on my couch.

"Lana kicked me out… again." He giggled a bit at his words. I could smell the bourbon. His head was going to kill tomorrow. "She said I was putting Aiden before her… but the guy’s just split up from Ashley, I’m just helping him ease back into the single life…"

"Hon, do you really think that’s your position?" I ask, sitting on the arm of the couch. "You’ve been married longer than he has. Maybe just leave him to sort out his social life."

"I was just trying to help him, you know?" I nod understandingly. "The poor guy’s wasted two years of his life on someone he doesn’t even know."

    "You don’t know that Glen."

"He told me," he replied confidently. "He said they never fought, but it’s because they hardly spoke. Just went about doing their own thing. It was like solitary fucking confinement… sorry about the French Spence."

"It’s ok. Where’s Aiden tonight then?"

"He stayed out on the town," Glen said with a sly smile. I couldn’t help but feel frustrated. "Was getting very comfortable with some blonde college girl."

"And you wonder why Lana kicked you out…" I said under my breath, before patting his head and making my way upstairs. "Silly, silly boys…"
