    According to my girlfriend, who said this, this afternoon: A world without buttons would be a sad place.

    “When’s Alex’s six week checkup?” Ashley asked through a mouth of cereal. It came out more like “Whohon Alah sich wich chupp” but Spencer understood it anyway. It spoke a lot for her innate understanding of her friend that she managed to decipher the message, but she did.

    “Wednesday” she laughed and handed the brunette a napkin to wipe her chin. Ashley grinned sheepishly and wiped the trickle of milk off.

    “Sweet” she exclaimed back. “Coming to music class?”

    Spencer shook her head ruefully “Unfortunately the only appointment I could get was at the same time. Elly will be there.”

    Ashley shrugged acceptingly.

    Spencer watched her companion carefully. She’d been doing that a lot lately. Things seemed so carefully balanced in her own head right now she wasn’t sure what to do. It was like, no matter which way she moved, something horrible could happen. She’d managed to get into a space where her children seemed ok, Ashley seemed ok, Gray seemed ok and Spencer felt ok. Any false move could unbalance that right.

    I mean, if she pulled away from Ashley, that could potentially destroy their current relationship. Now that was something Spencer wasn’t prepared to deal with. But if she got closer to Ashley… and damn but she was tempted. Well that opened up a whole can of worms didn’t it. She could still lose the girl. What did Spencer know about dating a girl. What did Spencer know about a lasting relationship with anyone? She was divorcing her husband for god sakes.

    Then there was Elly. Spencer had been taken aback at how jealous Elly had gotten by Alex. Five weeks had just about cooled it to an acceptable level. She was more involved and less angry, but still jealous. What if she was asked to share her mommy further? With Ashley? Would that make life difficult for Elly? Her life was probably complicated enough. And if she and Ashley did work out, wouldn’t that just add fuel to fire. Being deaf was going to be a fair amount to cope with, then if your mother was a… a… lesbian.

    And was she? I mean, she’d loved Gray. And Gray… oh, the problems there. How the hell would he react? He was practically perfect these days. Spencer loved him and was overjoyed at the fact they were actually friends. They laughed and got along well. It was great, and great for the kids. Spencer wasn’t in love with him, and she knew it. She had no intention of going back there and one thing she wasn’t questioning at the moment was her choice to end her marriage. She would rather things stayed as they were though. Changes with Ashley probably would mean changes with Gray.

    1. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…ok, good drama but BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO damn it! Spencer has made so many changes, worked so hard to find her way and now Ash has to push the envelope! UGH!!! Being friends is over rated when you are meant to be together…and then it hurts even more when others are added to the equation. UGH!! Fine then, be that way if you must. You know we are all along for the ride.

    4. ahahaa…only a matter of time. Youn can’t have it both ways Spence…or all ways, lol. I believe this is the “getting complicated” part. This is just the kick in the pants Spence needs; and Ashley. They’ve been on autopilot with Alex in the picture and such, but a sit down is in order. Spence is either gonna need to get over it and be happy for Ash’s date, which will be impossible, or say she’s jealous and go from there. Personally, I have no idea how Spence stays in the same house with Ash without busting into her room at night and taking one for the team. Mandy is a friend of mine, and sometimes, when she wants stuff, she flirts, and I’m like…*guuuuuh.* *drool* *spffffttttthmmmuuuuuhhhh…what?* I can’t help but imagine her for real when I read this fic and it drives me crazy, lol! S, soooo sorry I haven’t been commenting, but my life’s been busy busy. But, promise to be here for yah. Yay for update and I can’t waaaait for the next upcoming ones. xxo

    5. so i scrolled down and realized that this is the most comments i’ve ever seen on a story. but i’m going to leave another one anyway :] AWESOME post. i loved it! but something tells me you wouldn’t built up all of this super huge tension and then not have the two of them together in the end, so i’m not too terribly worked up about this date thing.

I can’t really say anything else, I just love it. I knew this would happen, Ashley is SO good to Spencer but she does have needs too. Hmmm, honey hair an angelic face? Does she have blue eyes too? Ashley sure knows what type she likes once she sees it. I’m waiting for Spencer to burst and all the angsty goodness that comes with it. She needs to realize just how amazing Ashley is.     35. it just couldn’t be easy could it? why is there always this drama? i know it makes for a good story…and we even grow up in the real world looking for all that drama, thinking that we aren’t really in a ‘great romance’ unless we have that messed up feeling in our bellies. well, i only get that messed up feeling reading these really good fics (my life is perfectly drama free and filled with love at the same time. yes, i’m boasting.) but i still crave this story…and i so want them to be happy. but something needs to push spencer out of her little ‘everything is ok’ coccoon…maybe a little jealousy is just the ticket. you’re killing me clom…but in a good way.
