Are You Happy Now? – (Chapter: Eleven: One More Flashback…Just For Fun)

Spencer leaned back in her chair and pinched the bridge of her nose. She had been staring at the computer screen for hours and she was starting to see black spots. All the emails. She shook her head attempting to sort out all of what Ashley had written in the emails. To make some kind of sense, any kind of sense, of what was now the present. How could she have done this? Run away from something that turned out to be completely innocent? She should have supported, even encouraged, Ashley in comforting Jessica. Instead, she ran away. And Ashley… Ashley had tried desperately to explain the situation. Daily emails for two weeks, monthly emails for almost a year… and most of them, after a while, were just musings, thoughts, her daily activities. Ashley had used the emails to Spencer as almost a diary, a diary she wrote to her former girlfriend and best friend. Like nothing in the world had ever gone wrong – until the end of the emails, which always ended in the same way.
I miss you and I hope one day I will get the chance to make up for everything.
I love you,
Ashley
But what did Ashley have to make up for? She didn’t do anything wrong.
Spencer wiped away a tear from an already tear-stained cheek. Suddenly, her stomach growled and she realized her throat was dry. She hadn’t eaten since the morning when Vanessa…Oh, FUCK. Vanessa. The girl that, for all purposes, had been her girlfriend for the last two years… SHIT. Vanessa. The girl who, just this morning, became quite upset when she learned Spencer hadn’t told Kate about Vanessa. Why hadn’t she told Kate about Vanessa? Because she didn’t want Kate to judge her for sleeping with someone…when she… She didn’t love Vanessa, she couldn’t love Vanessa. But why couldn’t she love Vanessa? Was she still in love with Ashley? No. Spencer shook her head defiantly.

“Okay, okay. I’m coming!” Shouted the voice from inside the apartment to the origin of the insistent, yet sporadic knocking on the other side of the door.
