After Love – (Chapter: Chapter 2 – Friends Save Us from Ourselves)

    Spencer’s POV

“Mr. Bradshaw?” I asked after knocking on the office door. The woman at the desk had told me that he was available, but he didn’t seem to be anywhere in site. Then I heard the sounds of pleasure coming from a corner door. I figured it was his bathroom, made a disgusted look, and walked back to his secretary.

“He seems to be detained at the moment. Could you please tell him that Ms. Carlin, from Barker & Magee, came by?” I handed her my business card and turned to leave the building.

As the fresh cold air hit me in the face, I closed my eyes and began to think of ways to waste my afternoon while waiting on Bradshaw to call.

“Turning back to religion after all these years?” A familiar voice came from nowhere and I smiled. I had found a wonderful way to waste my afternoon.

    Ashley’s POV

“No, five more minutes,” I growled at the cute blonde who was trying to wake me. When I opened my eyes and took her in, I felt the hangover engulf me once again. The night before came spilling back into my mind, and I rubbed my head in an effort to scare the thoughts away. It didn’t work.

I could feel the music and taste the liquor. I could see the girl, who was now in my bed, standing over by the bar talking to a dirty old man who couldn’t possible know how to treat her.

“I made breakfast. Get up. Don’t tell me you don’t like pancakes,” she was once again shaking me out of my thoughts and back into my bedroom.

“Don’t shake,” I mumbled as I held her arms still. “I’ll eat. Just don’t shake me.”

After I was dressed and in her kitchen, I welcomed the smell of breakfast. She was dancing around the kitchen which fixing a plate for me. Normally, I would be gone by now. I don’t do breakfast, but I felt compelled to stay. I wasn’t sure why, but it was probably because I was almost 27, and this 21 year old beauty seemed to worship me.
