After Love – (Chapter: Chapter 11 – Bread Crumbs)

The problem was that when he found out whom I was going after, his eyes only saw dollar signs.  Madison was married to a billionaire.  She’d signed no prenuptial agreement, and she was filing for divorce.  Whether Madison wanted money or not, Mr. Magee was demanding it.

I agreed to his terms and decided to tell Madison later.  I left her a note on the fridge after packing my bags, and I left for the airport.

We’d sat there waiting for a good hour.  She was late.  She probably wasn’t coming.  She hadn’t seemed like the type to keep appointments well.  Then again, she didn’t really seem like Jared’s type either.  He looked like he was getting a little worried himself.

“There’s this guy in town.  Her ex-boyfriend.  She’s probably being unavoidable detained by him.”

Great.  Not only is she straight; she has an ex-boyfriend.  My gaydar shot all to hell.

“Well, maybe we should call it.”

I could tell Sean was growing weary of his brother’s newfound crush.  He was probably thinking—like I was thinking—that this chick was no rockstar.

“No, give her a few more minutes.  We’ll work on some acoustics while we wait.”

They went back to fucking around with their guitars, while I looked to Sean for an answer.

“No.  I don’t think this is our girl,” was what he said.

    “Yeah.  Me either.”

I was sad a little sad about it because she would be nice to look at.

“Hi.  I’m Spencer Carlin, an old friend of Elizabeth Rivers.  We talked on the phone earlier maybe.”

    “Oh, yes.  Hello.”

It was later that same day, and I was in the lobby of Ms. Rivers’s hotel.

“Do I need to call before I go up, or can I just go knock?”

“I will try to buzz her, but she will not answer.”

“You go ahead,” he said as he handed me a key.  “You’ll need that for the elevator.  She probably answer the door though, and I can’t give you the key to that.”

“Thank-you so much for your help,” I said as I headed off to the elevator.

He was wrong.  She did answer the door.  Madison was right.  She was a total coke head.  She didn’t seem to notice me, so I introduced myself.
