    A Vampire's Lament – (Chapter: 1-The Last Sunrise)

    A Vampire’s Lament
    Chapter One: The Last Sunrise

"But then the turning came and I kissed
The sun goodbye… Don’t you get it?
    " –Atreyu

    June 6th, 1876

"Ashley Davies, please go upstairs and protect your sister, Kyla! It is no longer safe here; we’ve got to get moving before those damned, ungodly people get to us." An unfamiliar yet soothing feminine voice whispered.

A startled teen with beautiful brown curls and intensely gorgeous chocolate brown eyes replied with defiance. "I do not understand, please explain why we can’t just stay here to defend our family and home with the weapons father has in his special box?" The courageous but naive girl gazed at her injured mother from the unstable stairwell of their once elegant home.

The shaking woman was kneeling before the fireplace which had a painting of the Christian icon, Jesus, hanging crookedly above it. Her scared eyes met her daughter’s and shook her head viciously.

"Those pathetic weapons will produce no damage against these demons from Hell. Ashley, dearest, I beg you to leave while you can. It is my duty as your mother to protect you while your father is out there fighting. I fear this may be our last night alive but I will not allow myself to die without knowing you are safe first." The saddened woman stated.

This was the first time the young girl realized how much her mother really loved her. Ashley, the brown haired teen, felt tears streak across her cheeks. Her mother stood up slowly from where she was kneeling and reached around her waist with her unharmed arm to grab a pitchfork.

"But mother, what will Kyla and I do without you? I want to fight alongside of you!" She cried out, taking a step down the staircase. The woman lifted her bleeding arm up in the air and nearly shouted at her frightened daughter.

"You see this wound? A beastly figure who resembled a man did this to me! What attacked the mayor and the Avila family is attacking us! I don’t want my only blessed gifts in this world to suffer the same fate those unfortunate people did… Please follow my instructions and get your sister and yourself out of this place."
