One Or The Other – Chapter 4

“Hey, we’re going to go,” Alice whispered as she leaned against the doorway to Angelica’s room.

“I’ll walk you out,” Bette replied, moving as quietly as possible.

Tina waved her friend goodbye, but her attention was solely on the sleeping form next to her. The medication and their friends’ visit had sapped what little energy Angelica had left, so easing her to sleep was simple.

At the door, the trio hugged the tall brunette goodbye, and went on their way. Bette was halfway across the living room when she spied Tina in the kitchen. She stood next to the woman, intercepting the wet dishes and loading them into the dishwasher. They worked that way until all the dishes were put away and the machine was working its magic.

Bette looked around, lost. She knew they needed to talk, but a part of her just wanted to enjoy the rest of the day.

“Bette,” Tina called out to her ex-wife. “Please, talk to me.”

Tentatively, Bette reached out her hand and beckoned Tina near. “Let’s just enjoy what’s left of the day. I think I’ve reached the limit for deep conversations today.”

She entwined their fingers almost immediately, tugging the woman toward the couch. They sat, side by side, their shoulders barely touching. Tina jumped up, breaking their contact. She rounded the corner quickly, returning with a stack of papers in hand.

“Reading material,” Tina explained, taking her seat next to Bette.

Bette leaned back on the couch and rested her head. She felt Tina move closer, and her body braced for the proximity. Her fingers twitched when Tina settled down in her seat. Bette kept her hands in her lap.

Tina was careful not to push Bette, but she couldn’t resist being close to her. Drawing her attention toward the script in her hands, Tina surmised it was time to work. Every so often, she would steal a glance at the woman next to her. When she saw the woman was fast asleep, Tina moved ever so slowly.

Her movements had awakened the slumbering brunette, but Bette did not make it known at that time. She saw Tina scooting down her seat, lying sideways on her lap. Their position was strangely familiar, bringing a satisfying smile to both their faces. Tina caught the sigh of relief from above.

    1. There is so much going on in this story, I’m worried that Bette won’t give her full attention to Tina and trying. But Tina has to back down and be more real regardless of her panic about the senator. I don’t see a smooth path for them in the near future. Please Post soon.

    2. Maybe with the help of therapy, they can polish that sparkle to a full-blown shine. There’s a lot at stake, but Tina really needs to give Bette a minute to breathe. Thanks for the post, sky.

    3. I don’t know enough about this story to comment. Now going back to read the other 3 chapters. Back real soon to comment. I do see that Bette is avoiding talking to Tina about their reconnection when Tina obviously wants that reconnection. As usual Bette is running to avoid talking. Post when you cn.

    4. that was beautiful..i don’t know if ur gonna put them back together but…lets c..would love for Barbara to b connected somehow, coz her and bette has so much chemistry..please do something about this(smile)

    5. They’ve both been burnrd badly by their past but with continued communication and the therapy they can overcome the past and become the strong family unit they both so desperately want and deserve. Afraid I disagree with gumbsee40, Barbara does NOT need to be involved, Bette is much too vulnerable too Barbara. Putting her within close proximity to Bette would be like adding oil & fire together, the flame would re-assert itself and engulf them and Tina would be left out in the cold. Barbara is gone and she needs to stay gone, nothing good would come of her being back. Bette needs to concentrate on Tina and their family as her only source of love and affection. PPVS

    6. A couple the girls said, “it is hard to deny that sparkle.” Indeed it is, and Angie’s illness is showing them exactly that. Her little undiagnosed illness is the ignition to ignite that sparkle or flame of love between them. Angelica is the cataltst to bring them back together into a lasting love and relationship. Children can sense things and although she doesn’t know it she is the catalyst that will bring them together.

    7. Hey SkyDiver, Great to have you back and sounding refreshed and recharged. Hope that means much more chapters of this tender tale. Bette and Tina do lvoe each other and are fully connected to each other. They do just need some time to sort those the mistakes of their past, to learn from them and make the future a solid and safe place for Angelica. Can’t wait for more of this amorous adventure. Please make it soon. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
