Coming up for air – part sixteen

“Yeah?” Bette asked again. She had played those words, coming from Tina’s mouth, over and over in her mind so many times, she wasn’t completely sure, this was happening in real life.
“Yes, I love you… I must admit there were times when I wished it wasn’t so… but I guess I can’t help it,” Tina said, still holding onto Bette’s hand.
    Bette was speechless.
“Bette…?” Tina asked a little worried. She tilted her head slightly to the right and searched Bette’s eyes for what she was feeling.

“…I … T, I know I don’t deserve your love… but nevertheless it makes me feel… so thankful that you… I mean…” Bette fought to find the words to express her gratitude to Tina.
“Bette, you can’t take on all the blame for the demise of our relationship… eventually we have to sit down and talk about what went wrong between us. We have to, in order for us to move on. But Bette, it shouldn’t be a discussion about measuring who deserves what… or who committed the worse crime… we did this to each other. And we have to fix it together. Otherwise we’ll end up in the same place – not talking, not listening… not letting the other in. I won’t do that again…. I can’t…”
“… But I committed the ultimate crime, Tina… I can’t pretend I didn’t…?” Bette said with tears in her eyes.
“Maybe so… but I can mention a few things I would like to have done differently too… I’m not saying that Candace isn’t a big deal for me to get over… but like I told you before, I WILL get over it, Bette… You DO deserve to be loved… and so do I. And I kind of like it if we got to do all that lovin’ together… cause, baby… to be completely honest, when you do your best work – nobody compares…” Tina smiled.
Bette couldn’t help laughing through her tears. “Is that so?”

“Oh, wipe that smug look off your face…” Tina giggled, happy to see Bette cheer up a little.
“What…? I’m not feeling smug at all…” Bette smiled, feigning innocence.
“I know that look, Bette… it’s the same look you used to have on your face after one of our good ol’ sex marathons… trust me, babe. I know the look,” Tina chuckled.
“I don’t know… maybe you mistook my expression for my supa lova face…? Maybe you forgot? It has been a loooong time since we pulled an all-nighter together….” Bette laughed, wiping off a stray tear.
    “Bette!” Tina giggled.
“What? You started this…” Bette said, tongue in cheek.
“Yeah…” Tina smiled, her mind wandering.

    1. What a wonderful chapter. I agree it is nice to see them talking and joking around with each other. Anker, thank you for giving us this early Christmas present. Even though as you say you only have ten days together, just enjoy each day being with each other. Have a very Merry Christmas!

    2. I love how comfortable that they are becoming with one another again. The fact that they are talking and remembering their past together is a very good sight to see. Going slow is good, well any speed is good for them.

    3. I love them talking like this…remembering what they had together…the flirting. What they had was more than sexual…they were best friends also, they need that back…and of course sex wouldn’t hurt anything either…but right now just being together is great. Forget about Henry.

    4. How sweet and so seductive! I wish Henry wou;dn’t get involve and try to destroy their love for each other. Their love is what is important and is keeping things going and working things out.

    5. Ice cream and eskimo kisses… I don’t think they could be more sweet, but I suppose they have a ways to go yet. Nice chapter, anker. Post when you can + Happy Christmas!
