Chemicals React – (Chapter: 9. Too Late to Apologize)

She opened the door, her face dropped. Standing on the
other side was Spencer, holding a small basket full of
things. Ashley was going to shut the door but Spencer spoke
    up which made her hesitate.

“Please don’t” she pleaded, unsure of herself

Ashley took her hand off the door handle and crossed her
arms, quickly glancing down moving her tongue to her inside
    cheek.

“What are you doing here?” she asked, glaring. Not as
hard as Spencer’s previously seemed but hard enough to
    make her shake.
“I want to talk to you” she said “Can I come in?”
    she asked
“Why? So you can judge me more?” she said dryly
“Okay, I deserve that” Spencer said nervous still
“You deserve more then that” Ashley added, tilting her
    head a bit
“I know, please Ash? Can I come in?” she asked

Ashley opened the door further which signaled to Spencer
that it was okay to enter. The blonde set down the basket on
the kitchen table and walked into the middle of the room.
Ashley glanced at the basket and then back at Spencer, who
    almost immediately broke down.

“Ash, I’m so sorry, the last thing I would ever want
to do is hurt you and I did, big time”
    “I’ll say” Ashley cut in
“Please just let me get this out before I can’t” she
    said

Ashley realized the seriousness in her tone so she kept
    her mouth shut

“I never wanted to hurt you, especially the way that I
did. I don’t know why I reacted that way, it’s not a big
deal and I have nothing against gay and, and, and,
lesbian’s, I don’t care who you are or, or what you do
or, or, or where you came from. The only thing I care about
is who you will be and I don’t want you to be anything
    without me in your life.”

A bolt of electricity shot throughout Ashley at those
    words. Spencer swallowed.

“When I saw you come out of that office, I freaked, I got
scared, not because of what you were hiding but that you
were hiding. I was upset that you hadn’t told me, I know
that’s your choice but I just thought we were closer and I
didn’t want you to feel like you had to keep anything from
me. If I would have found out any other way I wouldn’t
have reacted like that, it’s no excuse but I just want you
to know that it wasn’t me that was talking yesterday, it
was some kind of displaced anger. I made it about you being
gay then you hiding the fact you were gay. And I’m sorry,
please take your time to forgive me, if you ever do.” She
    let out
