A Love Built To Last – (Chapter: Chapter One)

Sixteen year old Ashley walked up to Spencer’s locker.  Spencer was taking her books out of her locker.  Ashley tapped on Spencer’s shoulder and Spencer looked surprised to see her.  “Hey beautiful,” Ashley said.  My Dad is in town for a concert and I have an extra ticket so I was wondering if you would like to go with me?

“How many times do I have to tell you this?” began Spencer.  You are never getting anywhere with me, Davies.

“Never say never, Carlin,” Ashley responded with a smile.  The next thing you know you will be going out on a date with me.

“It’s so much fun though,” pointed out Spencer. Never, never, never, never, never, never, never.  Ashley chuckled and Spencer stated, “I fail to find what’s so amusing of me rejecting you, Ashley.”

“Do you know that if you do say it a certain amount of times that you don’t really mean it?” Ashley questioned with curiosity.  It’s easy to say and harder to mean.

“Is that so?” asked Spencer.  If you are right then you really do learn something new every day, but I do mean what I said.

“Yep,” Ashley answered.  Come on, Spencer.  So how about we do a compromise?  It’s only one date I’m asking from you.  We’ll go to a concert, have dinner, and go for a walk along the beach.  If you hate it, I’ll never bother you again with another date again.

“Could I get that in writing?” laughed Spencer.  You’ve been asking me out for how long now?

“I lost track of how long,” Ashley admitted.  A couple of months I believe, which is a track record for me since I admit that I lose interest.  Does that count as a yes about the writing comment?” Ashley questioned with hopefulness in her voice.  Ashley touched Spencer’s lips.

“No, sweetheart,” responded Spencer.  Nice try though.

    “Why not?” Ashley asked.

“I know your game and besides I am already spoken for,” answered Spencer simply.  You used the lines on many girls before me and you will after me.

“Are you making that up so I could stop asking you out?” Ashley said unconvinced.

“No, I really am seeing someone,” replied Spencer simply.
