Going Horizontal – (Chapter: Broken Hearted)

    Going Horizontal
    Chapter One: Broken Hearted

    SPENCER’S POV:

    Art.

If there’s one word that could describe or portray my personal feelings and attachment to art, it would have to be… God, That’s the problem.

I fail to find the perfect adjective that best expresses my opinion on the one hobby that I’ve cherished since I was a little girl. I find myself writing or sketching my feelings for what I love most on notebook paper; then I think to myself, I might as well write an illustrated novel that defines exactly what I think of my favorite hobby.

It sounds obsessive, I’m aware of that fact, but nothing makes me happier than having to express my humanity on canvasses, or any other object actually. Whether it’s sculpting, painting or graffiti, art is a beautiful subject that perfectly imitates life at its best.

I don’t know how I, Spencer Carlin, came to be the passionate artist that I am today, it never used to be this way but I’m glad I transformed. When I was in elementary school, well in many elementary schools to be accurate, I really never found the time to discover my niche in the world and I used to think that I would always be a nobody with nothing special to offer.

That was until I began the sixth grade when I attended the middle school that nearly destroyed my life. I was only 5’2, scraggly blond hair, my rich blue eyes hid behind thick black bordered prescribed glasses, and I was socially awkward, which made the first two years of my junior high school experience even worse.

All the drama that went on in the 6th grade surrounded me and I was traumatized effectively due to the harassment I received from a group of certain kids. Such horrible memories I desire to forget but no matter how much effort I put into pushing my middle school years behind me, something in present time painfully reminds me of what I had to go through for so long.

I don’t know what that is, maybe it’s the broken heart I still carry with me that I certainly gave up on fixing years ago, or maybe it’s the photographs I still have of my once best friend forever, Madison Duarte.
