Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch 2: Shake it Off)

    Spencer’s POV

So the ride back to my house was relatively quiet. Well, other then when I was telling Ashley why I needed to be rushed home. Apparently Glen tore his ACL while playing a stupid little pick up game to which he denies. Sucks for him, but this is good for me. Maybe Mom won’t be so inquisitive as to where I was while she’s freaking out about Glen. Wishful thinking, of course, but whatever.

I’m standing on my stoop right outside my front door, thinking of whether or not to go inside. Ashley drove off about ten minutes ago. That was sort of awkward. I didn’t know if I should kiss her good bye or what. I mean we were right in my driveway, in broad day light, no less. God forbid someone see. She seemed to wonder what to do as well. Eventually I thanked her for the ride and just hugged her, then promised I’d call her when things cooled down a bit.

It’s strange when you’re trying to pass time or put something off. You notice things you never thought you would. For example, my front door has this marking on the bottom right hand corner than looks like a smiley face. Well, you know what I’m going to be noticing every time I walk back into my house? This damn smiley face, that’s what.

I let out a deep sigh and decide I’d better head inside before I notice some other marking that will be burned into my memory. Like a Pi sign on the left hand side halfway down from the top of the door or something stupid like that.

I opened the door and walked inside realizing that the house was dark. No way anyone was home. Where would they be? Better check just to make sure Mom’s not hiding in the shadows or anything crazy like that.

“Hey! I’m home! Anyone here?” No answer.

Hmm. Interesting. I guess Mom was still at the hospital when she called. Well, that only means she’ll be here in a few minutes or so. Joy.

At least that gives me time to rest before the waterfall of questions starts pouring out of her mouth. Might as well watch some TV.
