Circles and Circles – (Chapter: Got to stop spinning (chap 14))

Spencer figured she knew every nuance of Ashley’s front door by now. For one, she’d been standing in front of it staring for a good two hours now. Second, she’d done the same thing for the last three days. The one time she had gotten up the courage to ring the doorbell, no one had been home.

Three days. Since she had woken up, warm and content, next to Ashley. Three days since she’d hurled accusations at the girl, and then, found out the truth. Three days since her know it all older brother had once again, turned out to be right. Now if she could only get her nerves under control.

“Get a grip Spencer” she muttered under her breath.

The soft pink dusk of the evening was descending. Ashley lived in a nice part of town, in a relatively modern townhouse. Not the first place Spencer would have picked for a girl who grew up in a mansion. The garden was neat, and would have been completely impersonal if it weren’t for a small collection of garden gnomes placed in amusing positions discretely around. Spencer had nearly laughed out loud the first time she spotted one of them peering at her from around a corner. They weren’t lewd, just, placed in such a way as to look almost alive. Like they were watching you. The rest of the house seemed non-descript. Spencer prayed she had the right address. It had been fairly easy to con it out of Cameron at work, after all, she and Ashley were close right. Right…

    If only.

Spencer took another deep breath and stepped up to the doorbell, her hand extended, ready to ring. She pulled back.

‘What if she won’t see me?’ She thought, dread creeping into her. ‘What if she does.. what will I say”.

Spencer recognised the near panic reaction, and turned to leave. Then stopped, and turned back. She swore again.

Then the door opened, startling Spencer so much she took a step back and nearly lost her footing on the stairs to the house.

Riley raised a quizzical eyebrow, and leaned against the door frame, arms folded across her chest and a strange look on her face. Spencer steadied herself, and looked at the young girl.

This fic is so full of hurt and loneliness, however, I always exit introspective and hopeful for Riley, Ash, and Spencer.Bummed only one more post, cause to be honest, I do look forward to this story on a daily basis. I have a fic here under PegLegMeg; has ‘Superman’ in the title; it’s tres long and you may enjoy it. :)Thanks for writing!

    6. Wow. This is the first story that I ever logged in to comment on because it was brilliant. Sorry that its ending….and on such a sad note. Do things always have to be unresolved does that seem more interesting?? NO. I admit it, I read for happy endings. Life is already unpredictable can’t something just leave you with a smile and not irritation, For that I can call my own mother not deal with Spencers.
