    Young Folks – Chapter 5

    15 months back…

Helena and Bette had gotten along quickly after their first encounter. Helena was thrilled to find someone who had so much in common with her. They both preferred tea to coffee, both enjoyed running, and both preferred veggie burger rather than the real meat and of course, art.

It was another quiet afternoon at the library. Both had agreed to meet up at the library to work on their final project. Helena wandered around the library to look for Bette. Finally, she spotted Bette sitting alone at a table, deeply engrossed in reading some book. She walked briskly over to Bette. She peered over Bette’s shoulder to take a look at what got the brunette so engrossed.

“I didn’t know you were interested in Augustus Callcott’s works too.” Helena said, causing Bette to jump.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” She quickly apologized.

” It’s okay. I guess I was too engrossed in the book to notice you behind me,” Bette chuckled. “By the way, I love his works.”

“He’s my favourite artist. And my grandfather’s favourite too,” Helena took a seat next to Bette. “When I was a little girl, he would bring me to the Royal Academy during their exhibitions to look at his painting.”

“Wow.” Bette said, looking at Helena then back to the book which had a picture of his painting.

“You know, I read it somewhere that they’re having an art exhibition over this weekend. I would love to bring you to the Royal Academy to see his painting.”

“Really?” Bette’s eyes brightened. “That would be so so cool!”

Helena chuckled at Bette’s enthusiasm, “Ssshh. The cranky librarian gets annoyed easily.”

Bette covered her mouth with her own hand, “Sorry.”

    Present time…

Bette was making her way back to her apartment after having brunch with Kit. She had mentioned to Kit about her new roommate who’s moving in today.  Kit was thrilled to hear that she had finally found a roommate but wanted to make sure that Helena was no bad influence.

“If I were to find you smoking pot in that apartment of yours with that new roommate, I’m gonna be kicking both of your asses.” Bette chuckled at the comment that Kit had made earlier on.

    1. Oh those college days! And nights…goodtimes, goodtimes. Oops sorry about that. Love this chapter and I truly can’t wait to see what Alice will do. I can see the sweat on Bette forehead already. Can we say busted?

    2. Yaaaaah, I’m happy to see this story I really like it. Oh no here comes Alice. Bette’s going to get a ear full when she sees Helena because we know she can’t keep that big mouth of her’s shut.

    3. It took me a minute to finally figure out they were students, not instructors. Well they seemed to have gelled(sp) in the past. What happened why Bette was so afraid to speak to her again. Cool that they are roomies. It seems they’ve made a “like” connection. I look forward to your love connection. No doubt big mouth Alice will have plenty to say about this arrangement
