    You (Part the Second)

Dana had never paced so much in her entire life. She was sure she had to be wearing out the carpet, but she couldn’t seem to make herself stop as she waited for Alice to get there. She had no idea what to say, none at all, and it was making her nuts. Well, that and the fact that she was already stressing herself out over the whole lump thing. She knew she should get it checked, especially after Lara had made such a big deal about it the night before, but she just couldn’t bring herself to make the call. It wasn’t like she didn’t have enough to deal with right now, anyway. Especially since Alice’s very dirty, neglected-looking car had just screeched to a stop in her driveway.

“Goddammit,” Alice muttered, shaking her head to try to clear out some of the cobwebs. She’d sworn to herself that she wouldn’t swallow a fistful of pills before driving over, but in the end, she’d done it anyway. And she had to admit that they were helping to calm her nerves. So much, in fact, that she’d almost fallen asleep twice on the way over.

Alice was a wreck. Well, she supposed she’d been a wreck before now, but today was so much worse than yesterday. This talking to Dana thing was beginning to look like a really bad idea, especially considering Alice had nothing she could blame for her behavior. Much as she hated to admit it, Dana had every right to be pissed, and Alice steeled herself to get chewed out as she finally moved unsteadily to the door.

Dana flung it open before she even had a chance to knock. She’d watched Alice throw back another handful of pills before she even opened the car door, and she looked like she was going to fall over any minute. It really got to her that Al had fallen this far, but her concern outweighed her anger, at least for the moment. She reached out to guide Alice into the condo, and winced as the other woman pulled away visibly.

“I got it,” Alice mumbled as she brushed past Dana and walked inside. “You don’t have to baby me, okay? I’m a grown woman, after all.” For some stupid reason, Alice was angry. She knew she didn’t have any right to be, but there it was. She couldn’t help feeling just a little bit satisfied as Dana closed her eyes for a second, sighing before she opened them.

    1. This is so much more real than what IC told us I hope she is reading as well. You lived up to your talent without a doubt. I love what you are doing with this story and will continue. Maybe even keep Dana alive because that’s what all us Danish readers want. Anyway please keep writing! You made my day a little better.

    2. Great job! I really enjoyed it. This is a much more believable direction that Danish is taking. It’s good to see them talking it out. In my opinion, they need each other. Keep up the great writing. I can’t wait to read more.

    3. Ok, totally love this story. If only IC could have written something so great… and Danishy believable. This is so much easier to grasp than the shit IC put our girls through. Please update again soon, because I am really enjoying this story, even though this was only the second chapter! :-)

    4. Even thought it’s breaking my heart that they did break up and Dana did go back with Lara — an Alice turned to the pills, so far you’re doing it in a way that at least has a direct relationship to the characters as we know and love them. Although I gotta say the above things were also three of the top four reasons (and that’s jus the Danish!) S3 is just to painful to think about, so I hope you’re gonna fix it, otherwise I just might need Alice’s meds all over again. Really looking forward to your next update.

    5. Just got caught up with this fic, excellent job, Muted, it’s like the lost scenes we’ve needed. Yay! Danish friendship is not dead, and having this on the real show would have answered so many “WTF?”-type questions of how things played out on-screen. Is Dana going to let Lara know about her reconciliation of sorts with Alice? I like that you don’t have D and A just jumping to getting back together, but rather, talking about misunderstandings and…moving on (in whatever way/s you’re taking them…?). Can’t wait to keep reading the next updates, please post soon!

    6. I like that you are allowing them to slowly heal. Dana’s illness will probably crop up soon, but I hope you give Alice some time to get stronger. In an out of character move for myself, I hope they don’t get together any time soon. I really like your story.
