Years And Tears Later – Chapter Ten – PART 1/2

I knock on Bette’s door and she opens it.

“Hi, babe.” I say and she smiles a weak smile at me.

“Hey.” She says. “Come in. How is Kane?”

“He is okay. He was playing in the playground when he fell from the swing and landed wrong. He has to stay in this cast for 6 weeks but he thinks it’s super cool so, thank god… Babe, are you okay?” I ask her when she is so silent and distant. She looks at me and sighs.

“No, not really… Are you really not in love with Kaya anymore?” She asks me and I frown.

“I’ve never really been in love with her so, no; I’m not in love with her. Why do you ask?” I want to know.

“It’s just weird to me that you don’t want me to come with you to the hospital.” She says.

I sigh. “Bette, Kaya is extremely jealous and hurt. She still loves me you know. She isn’t the one that has fallen in love with someone else. She is still mourning our relationship and I don’t think it’s a good idea to just flaunt it in front of her. I’ve hurt her enough; I don’t want to do more damage.” I explain. “Okay?” I ask.

“I understand but one day she’ll have to know that we are together and someday she’ll see it.” Bette tells me.

“That’s true but does that really have to be now? Only a day after we signed the divorce papers?” I ask Bette who sighs.

Then she realizes that I am a completely different person than Kaleb. The only thing I want to do is make everyone as happy as possible.

“You are right.” Bette sighs. “I’m sorry… Sometimes I get so paranoid. It’s just because of what happened to me. It’s hard. I always think everyone will hurt me.”

I walk a little closer to Bette and place my hands on my love’s hips.

“I understand but you have to know that I’m Tina and however you turn it, I’ll always be the same. You know I’m not Kaleb or any of his friends. I don’t want to hurt you. That has never been my goal and it’ll never be. You are safe with me; I’ll do everything to keep it that way. I love you, Bette. No one else. Only you.”  I say and suddenly, tears are running down Bette’s cheeks.

    “I… I was… so sc… scared that… you were… already chea… cheating on me… W… With Kaya. I know… you would… n… never do that… but… I just c… can’t help… thinking… it.” Bette sobs.

“I broke my marriage with Kaya off for you, no way in hell I would ever want her back because now I am where I belong. With you… Oh, come on, don’t cry.” I say and hug Bette tight. The brunette holds on to me for dear life. In any other situation, I would have been so angry and disappointed that Bette would think I would do something like that… and so early in our relationship. But Bette has been through so much. It is understandable.

Bette trusted Kaleb and she knew he would be angry and hurt when he found out, but what he did was so horrible and over the top… it had crushed Bette’s ability to trust which wasn’t even in her nature to begin with. Bette couldn’t help it that her unconscious kept thinking that everyone she trusted would hurt her if she did something that they didn’t like, however tiny. She had had therapy but it could never take away every bad memory, some things a human just can’t process.

After a while, Bette stops crying and gives me a kiss on my cheek.

    “I’m sorry.” Bette uttered.

I smile. “It’s okay babe.” I say and place one of the softest and sweetest kisses on Bette’s lips who revels in the amazing feeling.

“I love you.” I say. “Nothing can change that.”

    “Love you to.” Bette grins.

“Come on, let’s eat something. It’s after lunchtime and I’m starving.” I admit. We both chuckled and I whipe the last of Bette’s tears away and then give her another kiss. “I’ll make sandwiches. Can you set the table, please?”

    “Okay.” Bette answers.

A few minutes later, we are eating lunch and talking like nothing happened. Bette is laughing and joking, and she completely forgets about all the doubts she had. At this moment, she is sure of my love for her.

    1. Ugh.. Poor Bette! Looks like she needs a lot of time to have more confidence and faith in their love. I hope Tina will always so understandable on this issue, otherwise it’d be disaster :-( anyway thanks SL for another great update ;-)
