Work to Do Chapter 11
The first time Alice stalked Dana, it had been an accident. Or at least it originated from a chance encounter. Sort of. If you counted seeing Dana’s Subaru parked on Melrose outside Doug Arango’s as an encounter.
Alice didn’t think about anything as she pulled into a space up the street from the restaurant. Shane’s words from that afternoon had been playing in a loop all day. “Al. Dana has been seeing Lara.”
Alice had suggested to Shane that Dana might be interested in the new bartender at Milk and Shane had effectively ended THAT speculation with the news that Dana was with Lara again.
Alice exited her Mini, observing the surrounding traffic. Donning her sunglasses, despite the dwindling daylight, she headed up Melrose in the direction of Arango’s.
A slow stroll by the windows revealed little, yet Alice felt certain Dana was there. A sixth sense and knowing that Dana and Lara had enjoyed ‘fine cuisine’ when they dated before contributed to her conviction.
A second pass by the windows offered no more information. She went inside and pretended to scan the tables for a friend. Any satisfaction in spotting Dana was quickly drowned in the anguish she felt upon confirming that she was having dinner with Lara. The chef was at that very moment, offering a taste of something that looked like grilled peach and scallops. Alice watched for a moment, disbelieving, before she backed away, unseen.
“*****, ***** and *****”
The second time Alice stalked Dana was later that evening. It wasn’t a ‘stalk’ so much. She was just trying to find out how serious things were with Dana and Lara. She wanted to know if Dana would bring her home.
Alice found a spot where she could observe Dana’s front door while remaining in the shadows. She parked and waited. Her heart raced from both the situation and the Ritalin she’d been taking.
“That’s them.” She sat upright. Her heart sank as the ‘them’ sank in. Dana was bringing Lara home and didn’t look a bit conflicted. They were holding hands and Lara was chattering away.
Alice froze for a moment. “She’s looking at me. Does she see the car?” she panicked. Assuring herself that couldn’t be, she waited. Dana returned her attention to her date as they disappeared inside. Alice’s heart pounded.

DO you just like teasing people and toying with our emotions? j/k Like I always say, I would gladly take your season 3 over the current crop of terriying evil spoilers/rumors. Actually you make so much more sense than the show itself. Can I just say how much I Love the final scene? Just prefect *sigh*
I just can’t tell you enough how much I love this story. Great writing and great job conveying the Danish angst/romance. I too wish this is what we’d be treated to in season 3. Thanks for writing.
Awww! Dana falling asleep with her head in Alice’s lap was perfect!
You know what else would have been perfect? Nookie. Lol, just teasing. Since you’ve been kind enough to do it to us. Your idea of Alice stalking makes more sense than EZ writing for the show. Maybe it was her idea in the first place!? Anyway, I talk too much. I’m just going to say thank you for cancelling out the couch and moving them over to the bed. So please post soon!
Cape, I think you raised the bars for all the Danish fic writers because I’ve read a lot of Season 3 spoilers’ motivated fanfics but none of them was this brave and real. Most of them never dealt with the stalking plot. It seems it’s gonna be a hard and long ride with this story but I’m so loving it
Great take on the nasty S3 spoilers Capesquad (or should I say Ms Capesquad!) Loving that their time with each other is almost awkward and the way you illustrate that but clearly there is a depth of feeling which allows them get beyond that. Looking forward to next week!
I really enjoyed reading your spin on the spoilers and how you made Alice reflect on her actions. Loved this line, “Because she didn’t feel like home and she wasn’t going to…” I thought it was sweet. Great chapter…anxiously looking forward to the next one
hey great update, a hell of a lot better than those spoilers.::shivers:: Things seem to be looking up for alice and dana, yay, can’t wait for your next post!
they still have so much to work out but i think that they will get there in the end please post soon
Now, what didn’t I love about this chapter? Oh that’s right. Nothing. It was all great: Dana and Alice wondering what is and isn’t ‘allowed’; Dana wondering if it was a date; poor Alice anticipating the stalking dscussion with a ward of shrinks; and Dana’s reason, so simple, for breaking up with Lara. It always amazes me that you manage to convey so much in so few words. The pace was perfect; as was the ending. Do we really have to wait a week for the next one?
fantastic! you have such great lines in your stories. you did a great job portraying the scenario and feelings of two people who aren’t broken up but not together and how it feels. excellent!
Still waiting for your other story. Lady Gray. Seriously though I’m loving this story. You really are making the spoiler a little easier to take, if only you wrote for the show, because I just have a feeling they won’t do as good of a job as you have. Great chapter, looking forward to next week, Deb
The background you gave really helped to show why Alice and Dana interacted the way they did at the beginning of your story. I was so happy to see that this chapter extended into the present time. I’ve been sitting here trying to understand the soothing sense of quiet I felt reading this part. All I’ve been able to come up with so far is that as much as Lara was not home for Dana, we all know that Alice is her home. I was surprised by the extent you were able to make me feel that in this chapter. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Check out the lyrics to the song I sent you.
