with no limits – chapter 14: blocks and technical fouls, rebounds and free throws part 1

“Is that how you feel?” Alice took a glance outside the window, and saw her next door neighbors playing with their kids. “I love you, Dane…” She thought but she did want to say it out loud. “There’s always something, Dana. There will always be something between the two of us. Dane, we’re best friends. And before, all you could talk about was Lara. What were you assuming I’d think after you told me you wanted to date me? Don’t I have the right to get confused? What if you’re just trying to be a good friend…?”

    “A good friend…? What are you saying…?”

“You know… Maybe there’s this subconscious feeling of trying to protect me from getting hurt by Tasha or by anyone else for that matter…?” Alice let things slip out of her mouth, things she didn’t mean.

“What…?! So you’re telling me that perhaps, I don’t like you more than a friend? And I’m just shielding you from heartbreak? That… That I entered the scene, a hundred percent certain you’d pick me over Tasha so you won’t get bit in the ass? Jesus, Alice.” Dana turned her back against Alice and began making giant steps over to the front door, that appeared as if it’s a soccer field away. She was feeling dizzy again, the same microscopic strands of white light obstructed her dimming view. But she held on to her balance this time and continued zipping toward the exit.

    “Dana!”

Dana peered over her shoulder. Alice was two meters away from her. There was that same look on her face, the one when Dana had first seen her some minutes ago. “Maybe… Maybe you’re right. I should have just stayed with Lara in the first place and let you mind your own business. Maybe then, if you ever notice me looking at you from a distance, you’ll realize that there really is something more than what you think.” Dana slammed the door after leaving Alice inside the house.

“Dana… I love you… I was… I… I wanted you to hold on to see if you love me too… Because I don’t want to start a relationship with you if you’re not determined to be with me, if you’re not so sure…”
