who was I to make you wait II

“Come on, it’ll be your last serve, “Harrison yelled over the net and even though Dana was tired she still smashed the ball and aced it.

Sitting down on a bench near by her trainings partner sensed the tension in her.

“Ok hotshot, I don’t think it has anything to do with the Olympics coming up in two weeks in L.A., but definitely with the city and its residents.”

Dana sighed: “The closer it gets, the more anxious I become.”

“Do you want to see her? Or are you afraid that you’ll run into her?” Harrison asked.

“I don’t know, I’m not sure what I want…” she trailed off, banging her head against the back of the bench and shutting her eyes tightly to keep them protected from the Miami sun.

“Tell you what, before you crack that beautiful head of yours inside and outside” he replied, carefully putting a hand between Dana and the seat, with a grimace risking to get a fracture, “we are going to focus on the matches, you so what you are best at and win that fucking medal and if she still thinks about you the way you do about her, she’ll show up eventually.”

“What if not?” she asked, scared of a painful answer.

Harrison winced but pulled himself together for Dana’s sake: “You go back into the lonely shithole that you call apartment, get about twenty cats, and have a deal on vodka being delivered to you each day with other food. So in the end there is no reason for you to ever go out again and you’ll die alone.”

Dana’s eyes almost felt out of her head.

“What the fuck Harrison?” she yelled, looking ready to beat the shit out of him with her bare hand and a tennis racket.

“Hey, I might come and visit you once in a while,” Harrison couldn’t hold back the laughter anymore and pulled a very grumpy looking athlete into his arms.

“It’ll be fine, don’t worry. I’ll be by your side and won’t let anything happen to you, I promise.”

Dana groaned, willing herself to believe that and finally getting up and heading towards the locker rooms.

In all of these years Harrison had never seen such a contrast. At the court she was the best ever, he doubted that anybody would make it past her. Outside of it though, she looked as defeated as she never has before.

    1. Great to see an update from you, stronger!! And this was a good one. I am glad Dana has Harrison and that her career is at least on track. Alice is good at hiding her feelings, but, they run as deeply as Dana’s. You are doing an excellent job with all the dialog – very realistic. Can’t wait to see how you get them back together. Thanks so much!!
