    Chapter 3

“Hello?” Bette called out to Shane as she and Tina walked in the front door.

“We’re in the kitchen,” came the reply.

“I knew she wouldn’t be in bed yet,” Bette said to Tina. “She loves playing with Shane too much to even realize she’s tired.”

They both entered the kitchen to see Shane and Angelica sitting side by side at the table.

“We’re doing art,” Shane said with a grin. “And it was Angie’s idea.”

Bette beamed with pride. The table was strewn with paper. Angie had a big chunky crayon gripped in either hand and would alternate them as she drew on the pale coloured construction paper.

“That’s wonderful sweetie,” Tina offered her praise after viewing Angelica’s drawing.

“Is it almost done?” Bette asked.

“Yup,” Angie replied. She set her crayons down and took two new colours. The drawing continued.

“I’ll let you two take care of winding this activity down,” Shane said as she stood.

    “Thanks again,” Bette said.

“Anytime, we always have fun together,” Shane replied.

“Auntie Shane…” Angie turned in her chair and put her hands up for a goodbye hug.

“Bye sweet pea,” Shane leaned over to hug her then stood tall before making her way out the back door.

“I’m going to brew some tea; can I get you anything?” Bette offered.

“Tea would be great, thanks,” Tina replied. She sat down at the table while Bette put the kettle on to boil.

Angie set her crayons down and pushed the picture over to Tina.

“How about we get your jammies on and then we can come back out and sit with mom before you go to sleep?” Tina asked.

“Okay, let’s go mommy,” Angie slid off the chair and took Tina’s hand.

By the time they got back, Bette had cleaned off the table, displaying the latest artwork on the fridge. The tea had also been poured and the last of the day’s dishes put away.

“There are some apple slices for you Angie,” Bette said. “Would you rather have water or juice?”

    “Water please,” she replied.

Bette brought over cups of tea for them and returned to the fridge to pour a glass of water.

“Just after nine o’clock and we’re already winding down,” Bette commented. “That’s pretty good.”

    1. “Okay,” Bette replied meekly.”Bette, it’s fine,” Tina reached and took her hand. “I’m just not going to let you get away with anything like I used to. You in control and me following along did nothing for our relationship.”Tina leaned in and kissed her on the cheek.”Goodnight,” Tina said as she pulled away.Bette watched Tina as she made her way down the porch steps. She’d been given some things to think about.(tbc) Great!

    2. Bette’s still being a bit of teh arse, but not quite as bad. She appears to be moving towards a bit of respect, for both Tina and possibly even Jodi, maybe.

    3. Such an excellent chapter! I am glad that Tina is making herself clear. Bette has to decide what she wants: she can’t have it both ways. If she wants to be forgiven, then she must learn to forgive. It’s unfair to throw that in Tina’s face. Trust comes after forgiveness and with honesty. Thanks for your insight.

    4. Loved the parenting together stuff. So freaking adorable. I’ve been waiting seasons to see more of that on the show. Bette needs to dump Jodi..and explore her feelings for Tina before its too late. But really, I don’t see Jodi being the person for Bette even if Tina wasn’t in the picture. Bette loves family. Likes her ties to Angelica. Jodi criticizes her at every turn. It just doesn’t seem like a healthy relationship regardless of the fact she is likely still in love with Tina on at least some level.

    5. Excellent as always…thanks for the post. TIna is holding that line, and I think she should, because I happen to think she’s absolutely right in her conviction!

    6. I really liked this chapter. I’m glad that Tina told Bette how she really felt, and she was right. I hope that these two ladies will talk together and hopefully, these two will work something out with each other. Thanks for the great update.

    7. **Clapping…Sooooo…Loudly**…as if to wake the dead…and the dimwit brains that Bette and Tina both insist on adorning in regards to each other! But not tooo dim, ’cause Tina’s makin’ some excellent points! :) Love this, swim! Bravo! Bravo! (It’s getting late, even for me. Hope I made some sense.)

    8. I must agree with Tiff…It seems as of lately, Tina has grown a backbone and is no longer the doormat we met in Season 1…I, personally, love the new Tina, as I love all your stories, Fins!!!

    9. i started reading this at 830 this morning and its now almost 7 at night. but i had to finish before i wend home. im glad tina is setting some boundries and expectations. thx

    10. I am glad that Tina stood her ground and told Bette she wouldn’t just be waiting. I hope that Bette decides who she wants and goes for it! Of course I want that to be Tina. :)

    11. “I still harbour the hurt from when you left me. I thought we were together forever and you disappeared,” Bette began. “Part of me feels like I can’t take the chance that you would do it again no matter how much I love you and want us to have another chance.” “Who started the hurt Bette?” Tina demanded evenly. “I had to forgive you, but you can’t forgive me?” => I hope that sometime during the next 9 episodes, a B&T conversation will hew closely to this exchange. It’s obvious that they still love each other but need to get past the bitterness and the hurt. Please keep on writing this story and post it soon. Thanks a lot, JKS!

    12. Hello again, I don’t think that Tina’s declaration has just given Bette something to think about, I think she has opened up to herself just as much within this exchange. She still holds Bette up to such ridiculous standards that it is hard for Bette to fall down, in fear that she will ruin said standards. I don’t think either of them is to blame completely for the failing of their (past) relationship. As strong as Bette is in personality it just goes to show you something about Tina if she wasn’t able to stand on her own two feet and provide some insight. Everyone is talking about how Bette took Tina’s anonymity but for a person to lose it you have to give it willingly especially for someone like Tina, it has been shown in the past that Tina wasn’t a simple person, she had a strong will and was a mover and a shaker before she decided to become a stay at home wife/mom. I don’t remember ever hearing that Bette forced her into that position, I remember hearing how stressful it was on her to work at that time. So I think Tina should think about her lose of identity and start to take some of the blame, “I’m just not going to let you get away with anything like I used to. You in control and me following along did nothing for our relationship.” and what does this mean for the future, it seems like she is all for the possibility just on equal terms which is what I feel Bette is looking for after what she had learned from her experience with Jodi, she has learned how it feels to be without control even the slightest and she realizes what it was like to be Tina, she has learned from this I think and I think that Tina needs to be willing to let Bette show her she has learned or just leave it all together. I think this family excursion is going to open many doors and windows within both of these individuals and they will not only be able to look upon one another but also internally. Sincerely, JC (PS – ok that one didn’t make much sense… admit it :P)

    13. Hello jks, absolutely brilliant. The emotional layers within your writing continues to weave themselves between these two woman and illustrate just how hard they are trying not to reveal themselves to one another, they need to be open and honest completely or else they will continue to hit the fork in the road so to speak, and suffer divergent paths. Tina is holding herself up against a wall that she helped to create, Bette has finally started to open up towards Tina and honestly show and tell her what is on her mind, but Tina is defining this very act as “running” sometimes a person just knows what they want in life, they realize that it has always been there and they realize it is something worth fighting for. I don’t think that Bette is running from Jodi, I think that she is finally opening up to forgiving Tina for her part in the failing of their (past) relationship. Bette went to Jodi because of the safe nature that it presented, she really does enjoy her time with her but she is not “in Love” with her, she hasn’t or isn’t willing to give anyone her heart after what happened between her and Tina, and she is finally mending it. Tina needs to look really deep within herself, for someone that is trying to move on from your past yet holding everyone else up to your Ex, who you deem the highest of standards, she is sheltering your own fears and emotions. There has to be a middle ground to meet upon and start the path to healing and reconciliations that these two both long for, they need to realize that unless they settle this completely and permanently the confusion they are feeling towards and from one another is going to get worse especially with a daughter in the picture, imagine how confused she will be once she can actually realize the true nature of her two mothers, two woman that love each other and yet can’t make it work. Well I’m happy that this story has allowed you to expand it and trust me I will be with you every step of the way. Sincerely, JC (PS – did that make any sense at all :P)

    14. Great update, swimmie. It’s very good that Tina has more or less given Bette an ultimatum, ‘leave Jodi or leave me alone and let me get on with my life.” Bette and Jodi don’t have a good relationship except in the bedroom, and that is not enough to build a relationship. Bette should just call it quits and try very hard to work things out with Tina. PPS

    15. Has anyone else noticed that all of a sudden, in most stories, Tina’s not jumping at the opportunity to get back together with Bette? And why, for some twisted reason, is this Tibetter enjoying the sexual tension you’ve got them in the middle of? Lovely as ever. Great chapter. Also? Looking forward to you going beyond four chapters. Thanks, JKS.

    16. I’m all for clarity and if Tina can provide that from her perspective I applaud that. She certainly is right to dismiss Bette’s hints and passes while Bette is still involved with Jodi. However, if Tina didn’t always provide said clarity, that’s her fault. And I don’t believe that Tina had no input, that Bette always had things her way, nor that Tina was completely blameless in things going wrong between them.

    17. I like this conversation that they began at dinner. Tina is standing her ground even though she would love nothing more than to crawl into Bette’s arms. Bette does need to work through her issues with jodi if Bette and Tina ever have a chance of getting back together.
