Where You Go There You Are
Chapter 36
Bette watched Tina’s lips while she struggled to talk about how she had gotten impregnated with Angelica. It dawned on Bette that if Tina was having such difficulties telling her who the donor was she can only imagine how stilted conversations Tina must have had with Angelica. Trying to help prod her along and open up the conversation Bette offered a few words she thought Tina was trying to get out. “It was from a Black man?”
Tina looked up at Bette accepting her offered words, “Yes … Marcus …”
For Bette the mention of the donor who they had used for their son was a stab in the heart, a betrayal that tarnished the purist part of their relationship. It represented Tina crossing a line in the sand that was the difference between common decency and utter disregard for anything that had been sacred between the two of them. If Tina had meant to hurt Bette’s very spirit she found the perfect way.
“Marcus?” Bette asked hoping she had heard wrong. “Our Marcus?”
The slow nodding of Tina’s head was enough of a confirmation.
Bette couldn’t stand here in front of Tina any longer. Bette often imagined what the pain Tina had endured when she discovered Bette’s dalliance with Candace felt like. How bad did the actual stab in the heart hurt the moment when Tina realized what Bette had done. She no longer needed to wonder. The hard contraction of her heart was accompanied by a sharp intake of breath. Bette’s hand instinctively went to her chest clutching her shirt. The tears formed but for the moment had yet to escape the confines of her eyes but that was only a matter of time. They were going to fall. Suddenly Bette couldn’t breathe in the house. She needed to get outside for some air. Yes some air would help her out. Not bothering to look again in Tina’s direction, Bette turned and bolted for the patio doors. Her vision became tunneled allowing her to only see the escape route to the sunny space beyond.
Tina recognized that look on Bette’s face. She vaguely remembered the feeling all those years ago. Yes she knew that look. Her immediate reaction was to feel sorry for Bette. She really didn’t intend on blurting out that Marcus had been the donor in such a way. She had been so intent on Angie, trying to search her mind for what exactly her conversations with Angelica had been. Any detail that would allow her to invalidate Bette’s suspicions for it was Angelica that commanded her focus not Bette. Trying to remember all of Angelica’s comments and reactions could lead to why she was here.

wow, 3 chapters! thank you so much! love the idea that angelica is hearing B&T’s story from James – i think this will make her more open when she learns that it is Tina. i really hope that Bette & Tina’s love for each other will get them over all the anger, hurt and regret. they seem to have a long way to go…
Hello JWet, Thank you, thank you and Thank You. £ winderful pieces of writing that had Angelica and me on the edge of oure respective seats. I am just pausing to regain some breath right now… I love how you playfully switch between the lightness of Angelica and James to the intensity of Bette and Tina’s conversation. There is so much light and shade in these dialogues. Tina is beginning to appreciate how her choices have affected both her daugther and her former partner. We are each the mistress of our own life and yet forget the impact we cna have on those around us. Tina’s use of Marcus’ sperm is a defiant betrayal of Bette’s dream for a child. Tina saw this as hse let the words slip from her mouth. Bette was traying to coax the truth from Tina and help Tina see her daugther as a young and confused biracial woman. Tina has yet to realize the change in Bette and how her illness made her revisit much of her life and see how she needed to develop into a different, more caring person. Bette has done this and now has to show Tina just how different she is. They need to move on from the past and deal with the present and sort things out with Angelica. The past has to be put it its place; acknowledged and forgiven. I just hope Bette and Tina can do this soon. James and Angelica are just adorabel right now. I can feel Angelica’s anticipation as she devours all this new information. I wonder how she will act when she finally finds out her mother’s hidden secrets. Tantalizing stuff. JWet, you just do it all with such aplomb! You rock my world. Thank you so much. Many thanks from Your Most Loyal Fan and Dear Friend.
Wow three!! I read them all first and then commented. Sorry. That was AMAZING. Thank you so much, totally hoping for more before xmas!?!
Thanks so much for the 3 posts today, enjoyed them very much. Love the story. Tina needs to talk with Bette and Angelica. She must erase the past with Bette if she can, at least get over the anger and try to move on. She does not know the changes that Bette has gone through nor why but she needs to know and to understand that Bette has changed into someone that she could truly love. They also have to make Angie understand the past and all the things that she must know and understand as a biracial child, and Bette is the only one that can help her with that. I think James should turn his conversation to another track now and get off the history of Tina and Bette and let them tell Angelica the things she needs to know and that ONLY they understand the dynamics of. Great chapter. PPS
I started to read the 1st update, at the end I needed more and their it was. Then I read the next, and needed more and their it was, then the last one, I needed more, but I couldn’t find it. Damn, this is like a drug. It took so long for you to bring it back, and now you so cannot write this fast enough. Love James story, B&T need to chill just a bit.
Hanging on every word. Thank you, Md
this is so good!
wow..multiple posts..great story..awesome writer..:)
Wow, and early Christmas gift, 3 glorious chappies! I hope that James recount of events will make Angie more accepting when she is finally told the truth, but before then Bette and Tina need to find a way to talk and forgive one another.
I’ll be thinking of this story the rest of the day, 3 chapters, thankyou!!!
Wow! Three chapters and I don’t even have to bribe you, yet. How about three more? ;-) Wonderful as always!
Cute James & Cute Angelica! – Just have one Q… in this version of T&B’s life, are you having the Candace moment be a one-time thing?… or did Bette stay with Candace for over a month like the show (in the beginning of S2)? Thanks!
what a delight with 3 chapters…i’m really not liking this tina right now and i really enjoy james and angie part…will angelica guess who that other woman is?
well that was delightful way to start the day. it is interesting how we remember the insults in our lives and how they shape it. good lesson. thx
Go, Jwet, go! Seems like Tina took over Bette’s single-mindedness to apply it to her version of their past. Let’s hope that concern for Angelica will break that down a little. And now that Angelica’s asked James who the mystery woman was, how’s he going to answer? He might have to finish his salad and her fries to figure a way out of that one!
Refresh, refresh, refresh; oooh, I’m at the edge of my seat reading these wonderful words. I can feel both Bette and Tina’s pain; and I love the playfulness that is James/Angelica. I can only imagine when the entire framily gets back into the story. I wonder if Angelica is ready for her framily?! Thank you; I will be practicing my refresh, refresh, refresh exercise again tomorrow. Happy Holidays!
3 post that was a nice Christmas present. Thank you but please don’t be too long for the next post. Hope Bette won’t have a heart attack and that Tina will re -evaluate her views on Bette. Tina needs to forgive Bette because Angelica needs her mother in her life. PPVS
Wow a triple treat fantastic, many thanks:)James doing such a good job of telling T&B’s story even I am intrigued:) PPS
