    What’s Done is Done

The rustling outside the tent woke Tina from her light slumber. She didn’t even remember falling asleep; that must have happened somewhere between the beer and being cried out.

Again, the rustling. Then the sound of a zipper.

“Who is it?” Although she knew that at least one person who might want to break in wouldn’t have heard the question.

    “It’s me.”

Bette. The intruder was Bette. The voice struck an emotional chord somewhere between relief and anxiety, which caused Tina to tense.

“T, help me get this damn door open.”

Tina remained in place. Still groggy. Uncertain about herself, about what was going on.

Finally, Bette was able to get the tent flap open. She climbed inside. Tina could make out her shape, silhouetted against the available dim light. “T, are you in here?”

“I’m here,” Tina replied from her sleeping bag.

“Why didn’t you let me in?”

“I didn’t know if I should.” Tina sat up, drawing her legs in close to her body. Bette sat beside her. “I don’t want to seem like I’m throwing this all in Jodi’s face.”

“T.” Bette reached out a hand, patting the other woman on the calf.

“I’m sorry, Bette. I’m sorry, but I couldn’t just let things go tonight.”

    “I know.”

“I couldn’t hear you speak of cheating, justify your answers.”

    “I know.”

“Why are you being so nice to me now?”

Although Bette couldn’t make out Tina’s features clearly, she had no doubt that Tina was crying.

She moved closer, putting an arm around Tina’s shoulders.

    “No, don’t do that.”

Rebuked, Bette withdrew the offending arm.

“Don’t comfort me.” Tina continued. “I don’t deserve it. I don’t know what happened. I didn’t know what to do.”

“You don’t need to apologize.” Bette’s voice was low, soothing.

“Don’t I? I was in here earlier with Alice and Shane trying to find a way to justify what I know was reprehensible behavior.”

    “So you told them?”

“They asked. I’m not going to keep lying, Bette.”

“I don’t expect you to. But you had said you didn’t want them to know.”

    1. That was a great single chapter follow up. This episode could have been so much more than people riding down the highway for filler. Thanks for taking up the cause to fill in some of the oh so obvious blanks!

    2. Wow! This should have been the way to end Ep10. That’s for sure. Thanks for giving us this different approach. It sure makes more sense. You’re a great story teller! PPS Lucero & Marsha – From Mexico City

    3. pseud, you are so good at writing these “what happened after” snippets. I felt sorry for Bette though, no one comforted her in the episode or in your continuation. Although both characters participated equally in the deception, Bette paid the bigger price. I understand what Tina was saying in not humiliating Jodi further, she could have given Bette some moral support, afterall, Bette was also a victim of Alice’s big mouth.

    4. Other than not expecting the campfire game to center on the topic of cheating, I’d be curious to know why Tina, who stated she did not want the others to know, who didn’t want Jodi humilated, became the one to ensure the collective beans were spilled in a public arena guaranteed to humiliate Jodi.

    5. Glad that you and others are doing the one offs, it fills in the blanks and makes the show more interesting to know what could have or should have happened. Loved it. PPS

    6. Tina love Bette so much,Yet she help get her to NY, tryed to be friends with Jodie, and didn’t want to hurt her in anyway, Yet in a very public way she hurt Jodie. She will be the one that broke them up. Not true.If Bette hadn’t been such a coward. Jodie would have been out of the pictureand noone would have gotten so hurt. thanks
