Alices completely swallowed her spontaneous reaction. She suppressed it. She had to. She had decided not to let Lara get to her and she would stick to that decision. Although she felt the cold stabs of jealousy she refused to let them gain access to her. Not again. She refused to be pulled down into that suffocating swamp again. And most of all, she refused to let Dana see her weakness. Not now, when they were so happy again. They had talked about Alices clinginess and worked it out. Dont smother the mouse was like a mantra inside her head. Alice felt sure a display of her true feelings about Dana spending time with the soup chef would send them way back down the downward spiral. And they had just climbed up from their first ride down. Therefore she just shrugged it of.

Dana was so relieved. She had expected the third degree but Alice did not even seem to care about Lara anymore. It was great that she was overcoming her insecurities. But no matter how convincing Alice was, Danas mother hadnt raised no fool. She knew that if she had eaten lunch with any of her other friends Alices would have at least asked how they were, what they talked about and so on. Alice was just like that. She wanted to know everything about everyone. But she had not uttered a word about Lara. That told Dana that her girlfriend still was not quite comfortable with her hanging out with her ex. That did not matter much to Dana, at least Alice were trying to change and Dana found that endearing.

After a visit to her condo to change, shower and rest Dana returned to Alices. Alice was, how incredible it may sound, already finished when Dana arrived to pick her up in her Subaru. That was more because Dana was late than Alice early. Dana had really taken her time to look her best for Alice tonight. Alice felt her jaw drop when she laid eyes on her girlfriend. She looked incredible. The dress fitted her athletic body perfectly. Alice thought, not so much in secret, that Dana did not really have a great dress sense. But this time she had really succeeded in her choice of clothes. But it was not just the clothes, it was her whole appearance. She could not say exactly what it was that made her look so amazing, but it was enough for Alice to want to skip dinner and just pull Dana inside her apartment and not come out ever again. She resisted though. They needed to get out more, and not isolate themselves like lovers had a tendency to do. It was a long time since they had been out together, except for the Planet, but that didnt count. The Planet was more like the whole gangs living room than anything else. By the look of Dana this was going to be a fancy dinner.
