"Shane, can I steal Bette away from you for a moment?"

"Of course." Helena took Bette’s hand and walked her into Helena’s office. She closed the door behind her. She took in a breath and looked lovingly at Bette.

This is it, She thought.

 "Bette, I know that we’ve only been together for five months and I know thats not long enough, not nearly long enough, for most people to know that they want to spend the rest of their lives with someone. But I know, for certain, that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to spend the rest of my life loving you, and living for you. I want to raise a family with you. Me, you, Wilson, Juny, Angie, and maybe some more kids—I want that. I want that life with you. I need that life with you. And I want to know if you’d marry me and make my dream come true."

Helena reached into her pocket and pulled out the most beautiful ring Bette had ever seen. Her heart literally jumped into her throat. She couldn’t believe that someone was asking for her hand in marriage, even though she loved Helena with all of her heart. She never expected Helena to ask her. Bette was expecting to ask her.

"Of course, of course! Yes, I’ll marry you!" Helena wrapped her arms around Bette and lifted her. This was the second time Bette had been lifted in the air.

"God, I love you so fucking much, Bette."

"I love you too. I love you more than you can imagine."

"Let’s announce this to everybody, yeah?"

"Yes, yes, of course." Helena took Bette’s hand and led her to the kitchen. They filled their glasses with wine and went to the front room where everybody else was.

Tapping her glass with a fork, Helena commanded everybody’s attention, "Um…Bette and I have an announcement to make. As you know, we both love each other deeply and things have moved pretty fast between us…"

"But no matter how fast they’ve been," Bette said, finishing where Helena left off, "our feelings have always been very very real. And we want to solidify our relationship the best way we know how."
