View from a Tangent….Chapter 37
The statement was not easy. All morning leading up to it Bette was agitated and the ***** in her leaked out. For the people in her vicinity it wasnt pleasant but Bette enjoyed it very much. It had been so long since she was allowed to go full steam ahead without thinking about anybodys feelings. Since Tina, who called her on it now, was in Florida and Bette felt like that gave her permission to plow ahead. Her agitation and struggle to repress old feelings rose up in her frustration and annoyance at every little thing. At the planet when Bette came to pick up her coffee and muffin Dana came up to ask about which color would look good with that blah blah blahBette snapped that she didnt have time for that because she had more important things to do. Leaving the gang in her dust Bette left to get some work done at the CAC. Wrong idea. James made her mood worsen; he was always popping in and out, hesitating to tell her anything. Bette didnt realize it was because he was afraid of the black cloud hanging over her head. When he came in her office carrying files and stuttering that he didnt want to bother her butBette snapped that he wasnt paid to dilly dally.
Eventually at the courthouse Bette forced herself to think back. Reach into that dark place. They told her to concentrate…..concentrate.the sweat on her eyelids when daddy tapped them with his butcher knifesmelling his cologne while his tongue licked her earsthe scent of her fear mixed with his excitement the slimy feel of his buttery sperm on her thighhis weight pushing all the breath out of Bettethe words he whispered, the ugliness of themhis strength his angerhow savage it all wasand the painthe ***** pain. Bette saw dots in her vision and her pen faltered. She was halfway done and Bette had to stop writing when a woman put a hand on her back. Shrugging it off Bette hunched over again.writing writing writing about being trapped in his office like a cocoonhis hand squishing her face to the carpetand the excruciating ***** painthe blood.
Somehow Bette pulled through. Stumbling out of the courthouse she stopped by the fountain and sat down. Shes fineshes going to be ok. Slapping herself mentally Bette got up again and wondered LAs downtown, forgetting that she parked her Saab nearby. On the outside Bette exuded a powerful in-control aura, on the inside she was a scared little girl. Suddenly someone called out Bettes name and she whipped around feeling jumpy.it was Lazaro Salvatore. In college Bette dated a few men and the last one was Lazaro, a nice clean-cut boy who during their relationship discovered partying. It was with him that Bette decided not to ignore the true part of her, the ***** part. He understood and was the only man Bette felt comfortable talking to right now. In fact she was overjoyed and after the pleasantries Bette joined him for coffeeeven though she had an appointment at work soon. Distraction was needed.
