Two Minutes Later (Time of Day 17.5)

Bette hadn’t let go of her. One hand held Tina’s, the other hand lightly tracing paths with her fingers over the back of her hand and up the forearm.

“This is how it is, Bette.” How you want it, Tina added in her thoughts.

With a look of sadness, Bette nodded. And then she took a half-step closer. “It doesn’t have to be,” she whispered.

Before she grasped what was happening, Tina realized that Bette’s lips were upon hers, kissing her.

Tina closed her eyes, and let herself kiss back.

    (continuing…)

As Tina felt Bette’s tongue enter her mouth, it all felt so right. This is what she’d been missing. None of those women tonight could have made her feel anything close to what she was feeling right now, right here.

And as right as it felt, Tina’s brain screamed at her that it was wrong.

She put a hand on Bette’s shoulder, pushing back. Physically separating herself.

    “No.”

The word was simple, and stated calmly.

Its reception was denied as Bette again stepped in close. Her hand that hand been holding Tina’s was on the back of Tina’s arm, pulling her closer. “No? Baby, this is right.”

This time the push was a little stronger. This time Tina wrested her arm from Bette’s grasp. “No, Bette. I said no, and that’s what I mean.”

“You don’t want me.” Bette’s words were said in a sad voice.

“I do want you Bette.” Tina stroked Bette’s cheek with the back of her hand. “I want us, and I want us to be a family.”

Bette turned her head to plant a kiss on Tina’s hand. “Come home with me then.”

    “It’s not that simple, Bette.”

    “Sure it is, baby.”

Tina wanted to melt at the familiar endearment, and all that Bette’s words had meant in the past.

“Bette, you’re just back from New York, professing your love to another woman. You’re going to see her next weekend.”

“Don’t worry about that.” Bette had taken hold of Tina’s hand, and sucked her index finger into her mouth. “Don’t worry about anything.”

Savoring the sensation for just a moment, Tina took in a deep breath and called upon her flagging willpower. She pulled her hand away. “I’m not worried, Bette. I want you, I don’t deny that. I love you. I’m in love with you.”

    “Then what’s the problem.”

“I will not be her Candice, Bette.”

At the mention of the name, Bette turned on her heel and walked away.

Tears stinging at her eyes, Tina followed. “Don’t you run from me, Porter.”

“Why not? Yet again, you throw my past in my face.”

“Bette.” Tina caught up with Bette and put a hand on her shoulder. “Bette, do not run away.”

“I’ve paid for my sins. I’m not going to go through another round of fucking purgatory.”

“I’m not asking you to. I’m sorry if the words hurt you, Bette, but consider my position. I’ve been watching you pursue someone else. I’ve seen the lengths you’ve gone to woo this woman.”

Tina cradled Bette’s face in the palms of her hands. “I never should have let you go. I would do anything for another chance. I’m not afraid to make a fool out of myself.” Tina dabbed at the tears falling down Bette’s face. “But there can’t be an ‘us’, Bette, unless you’re available. Right now, you’re not.”

Bette smiled through her tears. “This is fucked.”

“I know.” Tina leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on Bette’s lips. “I know. But you can fix it, baby. I know if you want to, you can.”

    1. Well, I like where this post went. I’m glad Tina stopped it, before they went to a place where they might never recover from the dredged-up memories and new guilt. And I’m sure Bette does want to fix it. Spot on, pseud. Thanks

    2. Looks like it’s time for Bette to put her money where her mouth is so to speak and give Jodie the boot for good. :) Thanks for the quick update.! PPS

    3. you did good women y tough little cookiee..lol im soo glad tina stoped it and bette can fixed it if she really wanted to and maybe the lightbulb will come on,and blink to fixed it.p.p.s.

    4. I actually am happy that you went this route instead of them going home together. As much as I want to see that, there are other issues that need to be worked out and Jodi is one of them.

    5. Ouch to the Candace part! Awesome writing though….very realistic and spot on dialog. I’m proud of Tina, that can’t be easy to turn Bette down when she’s kissing her like that!

    6. Well, that was direct and honest, seemed connect to reason. It DOES seem to be something that can be fixed with those sort of ingredients. I’m glad they’ve stopped the waffling and avoidance.

    7. Pseud, That was awesome. Tina and Bette just complete each other. Different lovers may appear in their lives but it is together that they become one. Good to see that Tina was able to stand up for herslelf and push Bette Away. Tina knows that if this has any chance of working then they both have to be free and involved with eyes wide open. Honest and open communication shoulkd reduce the impact of outside events and forces upon their relationship. IT amazes how seeing your lover in someone else’s arms causes you to react so primally. This was pure instinct. Now knowledge and sense come into play and a future together I hope. Brilliant writing and perfect plotting. Thank you so much. Your Loyal Fan.

    8. This was great. It makes sense. Bette must be drunk. She can’t have her head stuck up her ass like that. She can’t be that stupid. Really. Tina was right. She shouldn’t let Bette use her. I liked this alot. Bette now knows where Tina stands and Bette will hopefully make the next move in breaking up with Tina. Thanks for writing this. Keep up the great work.
