    Truth Be Told; #02

With fierce passion, Bette pulled Gen closer and the kiss deepened. As they collapsed onto the velvet canvas covering, their hands moved along each other’s bodies, finding buttons and zippers, removing layers of clothing until there was nothing else left to remove.

“I’m telling you, I didn’t expect it to happen,” Gen implored. Her best friend, Jin, looked unconvinced as she sipped her latte. “You brought the girl into the back of the MET and didn’t expecting anything to happen. Sure, that’s believable,” Jin said sarcastically “Gen, I know you. You never do anything without a motive.” “Oh, forget it, you’ll never believe anything I say right now!” Gen replied. They laughed, enjoying their Sunday afternoon catch up session. Jin O’Brien, better known as jinjenie online, was a well-known celebrity Blogger who had been residing in the great city of New York for the past five years. She grew up in Los Angeles and had known Gen since they were kids. They shared a love-hate relationship, but Gen knew that Jin was her steadfast support.

Recently transferred from the L.A. Forensic Department, Gen was enjoying her last few moments of freedom before she started work on Monday, and coffee with Jin was the best way to end her weekend. “Truth be told, I’m pretty nervous about starting work,” Gen said, “I guess it’s the whole deal of starting with a new team and stuff like that.” Jin raised her eyebrows, amused, “You? Nervous? You’re the most confident person around and you’re good at what you do. Don’t think so much about it.”

“Where my party people at?” Gen and Jin turned to see Mark, appearing in a flash of pink. Gen rolled her eyes at her brother’s taste in clothing. “I am so in need of a coffee like, immediately, if not sooner!” Mark said in his usual flamboyant manner, “So what have you two been bitching about? I’m so freaking washed out from that opening on Saturday. What happened to you, Big Sis? I couldn’t find you after the party.” Gen hated when Mark called her Big Sis, but she smiled sweetly trying to hide her annoyance. “I decided to head home since I was all by myself.” Jin coughed dramatically and Gen shot her a stare of death. “I’m guessing that Big Sis wasn’t on her own?” Mark asked sarcastically, “Spill, bitch, before I throw my latte at you and drown your iPod.” Gen groaned and casually replied, “It was nothing, just someone I met briefly that I probably won’t ever see again.” Jin and Mark threw knowing looks at each other. “That’s so you, Gen,” Jin jeered, “A hit and run.”

“Ok girls, keep your claws in!” Mark added, trying to throw off the awkward silence that had followed, “We are love all around, yes? Let me tell you about my own Saturday night and this annoying but totally gorgeous reporter, Ollie. She’s would be Jin’s template woman.” “Ollie as in Ollie Quinn? The newscaster? I wanted to do a short story about her on my blog, she really is an amazing woman,” Jin said with a dreamy look in her eyes, “You have to introduce us! I want to interview her for my next entry.” Gen and Mark laughed animatedly at Jin’s sudden interest. “Well, get me a huge coffee and a cupcake, and I’ll consider,” Mark answered with a wink.

Closer on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Bette sat curled up in her favorite sofa which faced her French doors. She starred out at her to die for view of the city and reminisced about the night before. Everything had happened so quickly, she hardly had time to catch her breath. Without even the trace of a mobile number left behind, Bette only had one thought running through her mind: Gen Taylor.
