TLW: An Alternate Universe Ch. 2

Shane and Tina talked about going out in the next few weeks for the holiday weekend.  Tina was resistant, as usual, but Shane knew she would come around.  Shane had hoped to have another eventful night with Tina, dancing and drinking and eventually sharing something special.

“Ok, so call me later this week.” Tina looked back as Shane waited for her to shut the door.  Shane winked and Tina smiled.

“Later.”  Shane said as she shifted into first gear and pulled away from Tina’s apartment.

When Shane walked into the cramped drive-thru hut that smelled of old coffee and pastries, Alice said, “Hey you!”  She walked over and hugged Shane.  “It’s been pretty slow this morning, but I have things pretty much caught up.”

“Ok great!  How was your weekend?”  Not really wanting to hear the answer.

“Not really that eventful.”  Alice said with a slight impish grin.  Shane could tell by the sound of her voice that she had been up to a whole lot of something this weekend.  Rolling her eyes to herself she managed a response.

    “Go anywhere?”

“Never left the house.”  Alice said as she elbowed Shane, walking past her.

“So you guys are pretty hot and heavy right now, huh?”  Shane knew that Alice and her boyfriend were in the initial stages of their relationship and they didn’t go out much.

“I guess.”  Alice said with a sigh.  Shane looked over and saw Alice smiling to herself.

“That’s good, I’m happy for you.” Shane said reaching up for the extra large hot cups, and knocking into the creamer pump spilling some.  “Shit!”  Shane quickly wiped up the tiny mess.  She sighed and threw the rag down and put her hand up to her temple.  “I’ve got a fucking headache.”  Alice reached into her bag and handed Shane her Excedrin.  “Thanks.”

“Anything I should know about?”  Alice questioned.

“No…I mean, not really…I guess.”  Shane stammered.  “Ok, T is pulling her Drama Queen shit again and I just don’t get why.  We always come to the same conclusion.”  Shane’s friends pretty much knew about her and Tina, that there was something anyway.  Their real friends anyway.

    “So to speak.”  Alice quipped.

“Ok.  Look, she needs to simmer, you know?  I can’t get her to relax about things.”  Frustrated she swallowed the pills and chased them with espresso.
