This is my consequence (part 3)

Dana entered the house and slammed the door. She threw her keys on the table and they slid right off the other side. ***** she yelled in frustration as she bent to pick them up. Her drive had done nothing to calm her down. She grabbed the hand set of her phone and punched in Alices number. At the first ring she thought better of it and hung up, but that wasnt enough and she threw the phone across the room for good measure. She collapsed back on the couch with a groan. Why had she done that? Why had she blown up? She was confused and pissed off but that was no reason to take it out on Alice. Well actually on second thoughts Alice was the reason for all of this so she deserved what she got. Dana massaged her temples trying to figure out what to do from here. She had never really had to take action before. Things seemed to happen to her rather than she having to make things happen.
She would have to talk to Alice, that much was plain and simple to see. The main problem was that she had no idea what to say.

Alice decided to call into the office since she was finally out of the house. Frankly she could do with having some trashy excuse for a story to focus on. She found a memo on her desk requesting that she call in with the editor when she got in. Luckily Alice had finished the piece for her next deadline before all of this ***** had gone down so her curiosity perked as to why she was being called upstairs.
She made her way to Teresas office, saw that she was on the phone and knocked on the open door. Teresa turned momentarily and motioned for Alice to take a seat.

Yeah sure we can arrange that for around four
    Alright then, bye
    Alice, hi,

Hi Alice replied still not quite sure why she was here. She had a sneaking suspicion it was to do with a story that she wouldnt want to write.

Im sure your wondering why youre here and well I want you to do an article on commitment between ***** couples. A sort of can there be a lifetime of happiness article. Im sure you have a few people you could write in relation to I want this to be in addition to your other work a sort of long term thing. Ill expect it to take 8 weeks.

You know that I hate doing relationship articles Alice said not being able to even contemplate writing that kind of piece in the current circumstances. In fact no I cant do this article. I cant take the extra work load right now she stammered suddenly not feeling that well.

Look Alice how about I let you think about it for a while and you can get back to me Teresa said seeing the sudden change in Alice and regarding it with concern.

Yeah Ill do that Alice stammered and she stood up uh bye she said and walked out. Once she was back in the sunlight she felt as if she was able to breathe again.

In that office all of her fears had been released. She didnt know what the trigger was but when it had been pulled the flood gate was opened. Suddenly Alice had actually realised what Dana meant. Quite simply that Dana did not want to have anything to do with her right now. Dana did not want the friendship they had built and most certainly didnt want anything more. She realised that this was not one of those situations where she could bully and coax Dana into seeing her point of view. In fact each time she tried those tactics she pushed Dana further away. For the first time in ages Alice couldnt see a clear path. And that was mainly because for the first time in ages there was nothing that she could do.

Shane picked up a discarded newspaper left by one of the cafes other patrons, hoping for a sign of what to do. As she flipped through the pages reading about all of the horrors of the modern world she kept half an eye on the waitress who had seen through her.
When she got to the job openings she found it a little depressing. Trust Cherrie to tear up her life. Shane was surprised by how little raw emoting she felt about it. She more regarded it with a sarcastic, sick kind of humour. She could see the side that would bring amusement to others lady and the tramp, except the lady chose to stay a lady and kick the tramp back to the gutter. At first Shane had been hysterical but one thing she had gotten relatively good at over the years was telling herself that she didnt care. She and Cherrie were no more and with Shanes cool logic she could see that that wasnt going to change anytime soon. Any time at all really. So she left the past behind her. Didnt stop it hurting though. Just made it hurt less.

Shane got up and left, strolling around the block to her truck. As she walked she crashed into a woman who ran out of the back door of the planet. As the woman fell Shane realised it was the woman who had given her the cake.
Ouch, ***** she said as she hit the ground hard. She looked up angrily at Shane, her expression instantly softening when she saw who it was.
Oh ***** man Im sorry Shane said in horror. She had really fallen hard.
Hey Im fine the woman replied
Shane stretched out a hand which was gladly accepted. Shane hauled her to her feet and she began dusting herself off. Uh Im Shane Shane said thinking that an introduction was the best form of apology she could come up with.
Casey The other woman replied, meeting Shanes eyes.

Pleasure to meet you Shane said

I would say the pleasures all mine Casey laughed but considering the fact you floored me Im not sure that would be an accurate description of the circumstance

Shane almost blushed. Almost, but then again she was Shane.

Casey glanced at her watch. Coupled with the fact that the young woman had been running Shane put two and two together and asked In a hurry?

Yeah actually Im starting to run late for my shift at Rochinos Casey replied
Look I have to run she said casually another time
    Yeah sure Shane replied.

And with that Casey turned and hurried away.

Shane was stunned. She seemed to have no affect on this woman. For a second she wondered if Casey was even *****. No Shane she works at the Planet for kicks Shane shook her head at the little voice. You dont affect everyone Shane stated the voice. Shane smiled. That could definitely be a good thing she decided. As she continued her way to her truck she wondered at the hint of an accent in Caseys voice

Tina picked up the phone and dialled a familiar number, her breath pausing with each ring
Hello?…. put an end to that ringing.
