    Dana: I love you. Dana backed away and looked at Alice; she had goose bumps on her arms and a smile on her face. Shane was sat back in her chair watching the whole scene. She felt the jealousy again, but pushed it to the back of her mind. Just as Dana was about to

    Dana backed away and looked at Alice; she had goose bumps on her arms and a smile on her face. Shane was sat back in her chair watching the whole scene. She felt the jealousy again, but pushed it to the back of her mind. Just as Dana was about to walk out of the room, she heard her name, she turned to see Alice staring at her, their eyes meeting once again.

    Alice: I love you too.

    Dana smiled widely at Alice before breaking the eye contact.

    Dana: I’ll see you soon.

    Shane turned to Alice as Dana walked through the door. She had spoken to Dana, but not Alice.

    Alice: Why are you looking at me like that?

    Shane: Oh, no reason. I can’t believe it though.

    Alice: Believe what?

    Shane: Alice Pieszecki in love.

    Alice: You better believe it, Shane.

    Shane: You two deserve the best.

    Alice: Yeah? I never really felt worthy enough to fall in love.

    Shane: Are you kidding? You and Dana were made for each other. You deserve to be happy.

    Alice: You think so? I really do love her Shane.

    Shane: I know so. You should take advantage of this. Not many people find what you two have.

    Alice: What about Bette and Tina?

    Shane: Yeah, they make a great couple, but you and Dana? Al, you are literally two pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly.

    Alice: I guess. But we do want to take it slow. Most relationships are based on sex, and I don’t want that.

    Shane: Wow, Alice Pieszecki passing on sex? You must be serious.

    Alice: I am, Shane. I really am. Anyway shut up, she’s back.

    Shane laughed as Dana walked through the door, as if on cue. Dana handed the fruit to Alice and gave Shane some too. They each had a banana, an apple and an orange. They ate their fruit and gossiped about their friends for the rest of the day, or at least until Alice was wheeled away for some more tests on her legs. Shane had gone home, but Dana wanted to spend the night with Alice. Somehow, she managed to talk Dr. Edwards into wheeling another bed into Alice’s room, so she was more comfortable. It wasn’t about sleeping with Alice; it was simply being near her, being able to hold her hand as they slept. They decided not to talk about the tests that night, they just wanted to sleep. Dana laid in her bed that was placed on the right side of Alice. While Dana was getting comfy, Alice had a thought?

    Alice: Hey, Dane?

    Dana stopped her movements and looked at her girlfriend.

    Dana: Yeah, Al?

    Alice: If you’re on my right, that means I’m on your left.

    Dana: Oh yeah. I tell you what, I’ll sleep on your right tonight, and tomorrow, we’ll move the bed so you’re sleeping on my right. Deal?

    Alice: Deal. Dane?

    Dana: Yeah?

    Alice: I love you.

    Dana: I love you too. Get some rest.

    Dana reached out for Alice’s hand and they entwined their fingers. They shared one last look before Alice’s eyes began to close. As soon as Dana could hear the soft sounds of Alice’s snores, she knew she could fall asleep too. But first, she took one last look at her girlfriend, appreciating how lucky she was to finally be with the woman of her dreams. She slowly drifted off into a deep, comfortable sleep.
