The Thawing of the Ice – Chapter Twenty-Seven

    Chapter Twenty-Seven
Bette had been thinking a lot about Tina. Part of her was amazed that thoughts of her ex no longer brought about seething rage. Neither did the thoughts send her wallowing into depths of dark despair. Her Tina-centered emotions were more neutral these days and the third part of her was saddened by the neutrality.

Tina had excited her. Engulfed her. She didn’t want to be dependent upon Tina’s love and interest, but she did miss the soaring heights of their love affair. Bette had loved Tina more than she had any other woman. She’d shared more of herself with Tina than she had with any other woman. And she’d been hurt by Tina more than she had by any other woman.

As promised, Tina and Angie arrived early on Friday evening. They shared a simple meal of takeout pizza and both mommies played on the floor with Angelica until her eyes began to droop. It was Bette that scooped up her look alike, covered her with loving kisses, and settled their little one into her crib. She stood at the crib, looking down at her baby girl, watching the heavy-laden little eyelids struggle to stay open.

Bette was nervous. Angie asleep in her crib meant them alone and that idea wasn’t one that elicited calm. Bette kissed two of her fingers and then transported that kiss to Angie’s dimpled cheek. She loving smoothed out the dark curls and tried to force away the tension knotting her abdomen.

    They’d been in love once.

Loved each other enough to want to start a family.

She thought back to the night she’d inseminated Tina in this room. Her eyes flickered over to the bed they’d shared. They’d loved one another in that bed. Night after night spent in one another’s embrace. A trembling sigh escaped her lips and she wondered what would happen if she gave into the notion that Tina wanted to get back together. Would it be easy for them? Could she call Tina into their bedroom, pull her into her arms and kiss her deeply? Could they curl up together on the bed they had once shared and pretend that the misery they’d caused each other had never happened?

    1. Tears slipped from Tina’s eyes. “I said I wouldn’t do this. I said I would just wait.”Bette gently squeezed the hand in her own. “Please. Talk to me, Tee.”Their eyes met and Tina answered, her voice breaking with emotion. “Bette, you’re still what I need. I miss you. I miss us. I want to try again.” That was really, really emotional. I can almost feel how Tina’s inside is shaking while saying those words. The question now is if Bette feels the same way…..pls, pls, pls…..I want to know what Bette would say:)

    2. Next……On the Young and the Restless…….Hey MTS you said this tale still had a long journey ahead right? So my guess is that while Bette was receptive to talking with Tina she is still in no way ready to reunite with her at this time. Maybe eventually, with no promises, but definitely not right now. I can’t help but wonder about all your cryptic foreshadowing though……like if somewhere down the line, if and when they finally start to make some progress, what if it comes out somehow that Bette almost got her hand caught in the Candy jar once again? HHMMMMM….

    3. First thing first: BRAVO for this intense insightful chapter and I hope that your workload is back to normal. I like how Tina is seriously maturing, accepting the hurts that that process often involves. she took responsibility of her acts, acknowledged the depth of her feelings and put Bette’s ones before her own by refraining to confessing her love to her, only wording her wishes to “try again” at Bette’s insistence to “say it”. With her openness, she made herself vulnerable and Bette privy to her inner thoughts and feelings and that tells not only of the depth of those feelings but also the trust she has in Bette not to use them against her or to manipulate her. It’s good that Bette is starting to see beyond her anger, to realize that many of her actions are responsible for her hurting, despair and the black hole she felt she was in for so long. Her questioning, at the start of this chapter, of what to do with ” the notion that Tina wanted to get back together” and her insistence, towards the end, for Tina to clearly word her need to get together intrigued me! “Is that still how you feel? Even now? That I’m what you need?”, “Say what, Tee?”, “Please. Talk to me, Tee.” Hmmmm, why that insistence? I’ll wait for Bette’s answer before further comments. I still have a wish! Wherever you’re going with the budding connection between Bette and Helena, I hope the former will refrain from sharing, discussing the talk with Tina with Helena, IMo, it’ll be gross for them to share notes about her. If Bette needs to have a second opinion, would you remind her please she has other friends like Shane, who’s a street wise woman, knows how to keep a secret and is very loyal to her ;-D Read your VERY soon LONG next post.

    4. Wow this was just, wow. I never cry reading fics, but I teared up when Bette apologized to Tina. This was intense! You made my day :) PPS! I hope they get back together! *double crossing fingers*

    5. Wow, I was hoping they would be able to talk and not be angry with each other and I’m glad that is what is happening. They needed to hear what each other is and has been thinking and feeling and what made them do the things they did to each other. Now they are getting it all out, I hope they continue to talk it all out. I can hardly wait for the next chapter. Just hope that Helena does not come to town before they are finished talking and interrupt the conversation and the flow of the conversation because they sincerely do not need to be interrupted. NOT NOW, now that they are at that crucial stage, they need to finish what they are going thru, it is imperative. Hopefully Helena will stay in NYC a couple more days to give them the time they need. Awesome chapter even if it did hurt a little to read it. I feel their pain but this is so necessary. Thank you for bringing it forth. Thanks for posting.

    6. Not sure if I want Bette to say yes or no, as ‘need’ should not be the reason for Tina to get back together with Bette. Don’t know if I perhaps misinterpret the word need, but need was why they got back together the last time, Tina’s need for not being alone and having some security while waiting for Angie to be born. Should they try again, it should be out of want and love, and with the understanding that their past mistakes are really forgiven and they start fresh on equal footing. And I do not think they are already there just after scratching on the surface of their problems in the past. There is so much more to discuss really and what they have to say and hear will be hard on both of them. So perhaps it really would be better to first try with friendship instead of falling back in bed together, before resolving their issues. Thanks very much.

    7. wow no why did you stop right there!!!! you’re just plain evil, U know that? How will bette answer to that? But it’s a great thing that they are able to talk like that open and honest. Way to go for Tina she didn’t back down. But now what? plz update soon!!! :)

    8. ooo damn, feel like I’m watching some soap opera…and watch out for the next sequel on monday!!;)) do you know what you’re doing to us??:)) Loved this chapter! But I’m still amazed how after everything the Candance affair outruns everything else. always.it was a start of the harsh reality but it would happen sooner or later.SO guess we’ll find out soon is it tibette or belena?? at least for now:))YOu’re good…really…now I won’t sleep waiting for next chap!:)))

    9. Hey MTS, I am completely overwhelmed by the honest and pwerful emotion conversation Tina and Bette have finally managed to have. This was so intense and emotive. Their tender touches, open minds and receptive listening was mind blowing. At last, they managed to speak from the heart without letting their heads interfer.Bette and Tina have shared so much in their time together and apart that they complete each other. The truth of their words, explanations and apologies in their marks. They are both accountable for the mistakes in their past and now seem ready to accept their own and each other’s mistakes. This lack of communication and taking responsibility was paramount in the decline of their relationship. The love was still there however buried by hurt, betrayal, anger, frustration and silence. Now as time has passed both Bette and Tina have grown up and been able to remove much of the damage between them so that they can now focus on the most important things in their lives; Angelica and each other.Tina was strong and calm, taking ownership of her own frailties as she erxplained her side of these events and attempted to make some amends.Bette listened and questioned Tina appropriately. She got to the bottom of some home truths and accepted her own part in the destruction of this relationship. Finally Tina took a chance and laid everything on the line with “Bette, you’re still what I need. I miss you. I miss us. I want to try again.”I hope Bette is ready to match Tina’s leap of faith. Perhaps a discussion with Helena will help her decide her next action. This was a real pleasure and delight to read. Thank you for voicing many thoughts and feelings that so many of fans wnated to read. You captivate me with your wonderful words.Much appreciation and gratitude frmo Your Loyal Fan.

    10. This hurt to read, in a good way. The honesty and emotion was palpable. Honesty is the best policy & in that moment I just can’t see Tina handling it any other way. This chapter was just heartbreakingly beautiful in its realistic portrayal of the dialogue between two former lovers at a crossroads. Thank you. Amazing.

    11. Run, Bette, RUN! This is too much, too soon. The plot begins to thicken, but the cheeze, she is not thick enough to bind! Take ten, take twenty! Put Tina out the door until tomorrow!
