The Pussy Club
”You want some wine? Or some water?” Helena watches me with interest.
”Both. Yes, both would be great.” I move around to the shrimp skewers. I dip one into the dark creamy peanut sauce. It glistens. I look at it closely.
”Helena, do you see any glass on this shrimp? I don’t see any at all.” The shrimp disappears into my mouth and out comes a naked stick. I stir another shrimp in the spicy, peanut dipping sauce.” Your mother, Peggy, would think this is fucking hilarious.” I take out my iPhone and snap a picture. ”You know somebody ought to invent a photo sharing site for stupid shit exactly like this. They’d make a fortune.” I wave Helena into the frame. Click. Click.
”Okay. Enough. Here’s your wine.” Helena reaches across the food chaos. ”Believe me, Bette, you have to know, you’re the last fucking person I want to ask.”
”One night, Helena.” I knock a piece of glass off the watercress and crab meat sandwiches. ”But then what are you going to do?” I wash down the food with a long sip of white wine as I go for another sandwich.
”I’ve no idea. It’s quite pitiful really.” Helena pours herself a drink. ”I can read and write in Latin and Greek. Know anyone who needs letters written in dead languages?”
”God, that is so fucked up. What were the English thinking?”
”About the past, really. We spend a massive amount of time thinking about it.”
”We need some pot. Thoughts on that?” I polish off the last of the salmon.
Helena laughs at me I think putting it all together. ”Right! Of course. Hang on, let me find that clumsy bus boy.”
Bette’s Car – Sunset Blvd. -Bette
”This sounds crass I know and I apologize, but how much money do you have? I have forty dollars.” Helena asks as she takes the joint out of her purse. She lights it and inhales.
”You mean like net worth?” I shake my head and take the joint. I inhale deeply. Holding my breath I say, ”I’m not fucking telling you that. No way.”
”No, Bette, on you. Although, the place I’m thinking about takes plastic.”
”What place?”
”Are you higher than you are drunk?”

Amazing as always,10 stars.
I remember that pot-smoking scene w/Jodi and Tom. I thought when Bette inhaled the smoke that Jodi exhaled was one of the most erotic scenes I’ve seen. It was so freakin’ hot. Bette’s outspoken comments and thoughts can be attributed to her baked state. Hilarious scenes w/Helena and the strippers. Very funny and outrageous. You keep outdoing yourself, Ms. BB
I love your take on things. Thank you.
Helena to off Jenny for Bette – hilarious! I agree, the pot scene with Jodi was hot.
Helena and Bette are are similar – nice to see them work thing out.
It was really fun! I liked it!
I have to admit to smoking pot scene was hot (although it would have been better if not with Jodie) I know, I know. will have to wait ;)
the scene is like Helena and Bette… -God! :D. Bette asked her about Jenny was just sensational.
whether, now Bette notices the signs, or later? and they will have an affair …
I’m looking forward to the sequel.
Alice’s influence as Helena’s room mate is rubbing off on her. It was hilarious seeing Bette getting her pleasure interrupted by Helena. Tina starting to wear Bette’s rings again? Bring it on BB!
Very funny, loved it
Yes! love it BB!
Does she ever talk on the phone? Of course, not. God, how does that work?
At the time the episode was filmed, it worked with teletype devices for the deaf, abbreviated TTY or TDY. These were the same high-speed morse signals used on WW2 military teletypes, but (by 1984) available in highly portable electronic models about the size and weight of (oh how this dates me) portable typewriters – which they closely resembled. The telephone handset would be put in rubber cups where the typewriter roller would be, and messages were typed out on the keyboard, which the TTY would convert to highspeed beeping code that would be picked up by the TTY at the other end of the phone call, where the typed words would appear on one of the Times Square type moving message displays (and, on deluxe models, also printed on adding machine paper).
That was then. Now there are desktop and laptop computers with cameras, so video-phone conversations between two people who are on-screen doing Sign Language directly with each other is possible. In fact several of my deaf friends gave up their telephone lines altogether, dumped their TTYs, and now communicate entirely over the internet with cameras.
