At this point, Tina’s thoughts were beginning to muddy. The day. The meal. The wine. Bette. All combined to overload her senses. She pulled back for a moment, recapturing her wits.
Bette. So close. Stroking her face. So beautiful, confident. Bette speaking.
“Stay.”
One word. So much meaning.
How to answer? Tina took in a deep breath, debating her response. Considering all, she knew what she must say.

“Today has been so wonderful,” Tina began, seeing the anticipation on Bette’s face. “I don’t want to do anything to spoil things between us.”
Bette’s hand was continuing its light traces on Tina’s face. “Neither do I, baby.”
“I have to go.”
“You don’t have to.”
“Bette, I don’t want us to be intimate, to ignore all of our big issues.”
“All big issues have left the room.” Bette gave Tina a smile. “I just want to show you what you mean to me.”
“I want that too, baby.” Tina gave the hand that she was holding a squeeze. “Really. But I think we can only do this once, and I want to do it right.”
“What if we just sleep?”
“Can you do that?”
“Tina, I am not a sex maniac.”
Tina leaned close, placing a kiss high up on Bette’s neck. “You aren’t?”
“Tease.” Bette exhaled the word.
“Yes.”
Bette’s hand wandered down the front of Tina’s dress, fingertips now tracing over her breast.
“That’s what I mean. It always starts with those touches…”
“The ones that drive you crazy?”
“Totally crazy,” Tina took hold of the errant hand, bringing it to her mouth and placing a kiss on the palm. “You know my weaknesses.”
“I know your strengths,” Bette countered. “She gathered Tina’s hands, holding them both. Please, stay. We’ll just sleep.”
Skeptical, Tina raised an eyebrow.
“I want to hold you. I want to remember how it feels to wake with you.”
“Just sleep?”
“I can if you can.”
“I’m not sure if I can,” Tina admitted, to Bette’s surprised look. “What?” she continued. “I’ve always found you hot.”
“Always?” Even during your tour of straightsville?

Oh my god, they actually did it! Slept together without sex. Amazing. Like in the olden days when frontier families would host a suitor by “bundling” him with their daughter, trusting a rolled up blanket in the middle of the bed would keep hymens intact. Of course, in those days they almost always had a gun conveniently placed over the fireplace. Just in case. Ironic that it was so revealing that Bette admitted to keeping and wearing Tina’s pyjamas.
pseud….you’ve got the golden touch. I love this story. It is interesting to see how they each try to survive w/o the other when they were separated. Most excellent. PPS.
This story was worth the breif detour to .333 and I willing to go to another .333 or whatever as long as you keep writing this story!
I’m glad to see that Bette never really let go.. keeping the clothes. That isn’t someone who was really moving on even if they were seemingly going through the motions. More of that kind of thing. Glad that they didn’t have sex.. they did that last time, jumping back into bed, and it didn’t work out. I want it to work out.. so let them rebuild and slowly tackle their problems.
This was super sweet – from Bette keeping the clothes to Tina wanting to wait to Angelica being jealous and wanting her mommy all to the herself.
I am glad T feels warm and safe in Bette’s arms. It is nice…PPS

So, Tina stayed but there was no sex. I think that’s a compromise that we can all live with. Here’s the first steps! Thanks for continuing this story!
loved Angie’s ‘bad. home’ ha-ha-ha….loved that Bette kept and wore the stripey PJs and T knew and didn’t insist that Bette give them back…and the T shirts etc….loving the story…and I like that they just slept…good one…PPS

I was actually against them sleeping together but in my mind it would have been the sex part that I disagreed with. I love the way that you wrote this squence of them together. Now that is the family that I always wanted to see from them, Bette, Tina and Angelica.

Wow, what a great way to end the evening, but I do think it was the perfect solution. And now you have prolonged this story for another 10/30 chapters….
Oh please pseud, you have quite the gift of creativity. A unique voice that we are privileged to ‘hear’ through your postings. The progression is perfect in this story – trading off caution and wondering at the intentions of the other, both of the protagonists dance their dance of…could it be reconciliation? It’s left in your capable hands.
HEy Pseud, That was touching and tender. It is most pleasing to see both gals gingerly take steps towards one another again. Everything that they have been throught is there but hopefully teaching them to be kind and respectful of one another. This was a big step. i really really adore this story!!i know it’s all yours to take in the direction that you wish, but it would be great to actually see the characters go on dates and get to know each other again before they step back into a relationship again as they seem to do in so many other stories.excellent work your doing here. please keep it up. and i loved the previous chapter too.x.x.
