    The Loudest Whisper

    PART TWO:

Bette and Chris were driving away from the school; Bette cuddled up to Chris as they drove in silence.

“What do you want to do tonight?” Bette asked. Christopher stayed silent.

“Want to see a movie? Take a walk down by the lake?” she waited for a response from him. “Chris?”

“Why don’t we do something we have never done before…like, I don’t know; get married?” Chris said with a smile.

Bette chuckled; “You know I love you…and I want to be your wife…but I can’t get married until—“

“Until the school is up and running…” Chris interrupted. “It’s always something…”

“Why are you acting like this?” Bette asked.

Chris pulled the car over to the side of the road.

“I can’t help it; can you really blame me for wanting to marry the woman I love? We’ve been putting it off for over a year now…sometimes I think that you keep putting it off because you don’t want to.”

“Stop talking like that!” Bette nudged him.

“I’m just tired of waiting…” he said sadly; “don’t you want to start our family? Have children of your own to care for?”

Bette turned Chris’ head so he was looking at her. “I do, very much want all of that…”

    “Well?”

Bette smiled, “I think we should…after school lets out.”

Chris smiled back; “Sounds good to me.”

They both leaned in for a kiss to seal the deal, and then they embraced each other.

“I love you…very much” Bette whispered.

After almost two years of being together they we’re finally setting a date to start their lives together.

Ellen had awoken when she heard Christopher’s car pull up to the school. She saw Bette run into the house and heard her run up the stairs towards Tina’s room. She decided to do a little late night eaves-dropping.

Bette walked into Tina’s room as she was doing some ironing.

    “Tina, guess what?”

    “What?”

“Chris and I finally set a date…we’re going to marry after school lets out…isn’t that wonderful?” Bette said as she hugged Tina. Tina was at a loss for words. She barely managed to get anything out after hearing the news.

    1. Hello C… do I smell trouble brewing… wooooo hooooo this is so awesome… I absolutely love the movie and you really have captured not only the spirit but the time period so perfectly… you create such real emotions and tensions within your words… and well its just fantastic… mucho love and hugs my friend, JC Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels…

    2. I can sense that this Ellen will be a trouble in the future, it really makes me angry when I see Bette so excited about her marring Chris and I can’t help but feel that it is wrong, I guess the only thing that we are use to is to have Tina and Bette always together. Thank you so much CS, you are doing a great job writing this story and it really caught my attention. I can’t wait to see what will happen next. Love Post soon

    3. I just caught up with this story. Does Aunt Ellen have a clue that Tina may have strong feelings for Bette? Chris is not bad, I just hate seeing Bette moving on with him and leaving Tina behind.

    4. Auvrey Hepburn & Shirley MacLaine’s The Children’s Hour, aka The Loudest Whisper in UK – god, I knew it recalled me this movie but it wasn’t before I found the British title of it that I became sure of that ! Oh, I have such a weakness for Silver Screen’s movies, being the huge cinema lover I am… Thank you so much for sharing your idea : it’s great – and “taboo” fifties are an especially powerful topic (don’t I know it, since I choiced my ID from a fifties’ novel ? *wink*). I’m ready to suffer a lot here (*sighs*) but I’m SURE you couldn’t go to the tragic original end of the story… right ?? (*puppy’s eyes*) Many thanks again. I’m already hooked ! ^_^

    5. Hey Coff, Sweet to have you back and I am liking this new tale. Awesome to have Tina so jealous of Bette’s propsal and yet not fully realize why it bugs her so. Ellen is a sneaky wee lass and I am sure there will be more for her soon. Many thanks for returning with a brilliant beginning. Your Loyal Fan.

    6. Hey Coffee, you are certainly doing justice to the time setting. The 50’s were specially hard on people having different love choices. That was a fact! We are glad that things have changed recently, for the better. That snoopy auntie of Tina is certainly annoying! Chris is just acting like boys at that time. There is nothing evil in him. Just being plain and boring. Hahaha As for Bette, she has to realize many things yet, before going after Tina. As for T, well, she still doesn’t know what the heck is going on with those green feelings of jealousy for Bette. You are doing great here, Coffee. Keep on posting! Do not lose your good roll.
