THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD – Chapter 28
Bette felt some familiar stirrings in her stomach. She took Tina’s hand and placed it in the best place for K-P jnr’s floorshow.
They both laughed and for several minutes they just enjoyed their son.
“I cannot wait until he is born” Tina whispered.
“We’ve found each other again – we have come through so much and now we are just going to enjoy the peace until he is born – no surprises “
Tina smiled – for once Bette was going to get the surprise.

Tina cursed as she speed along the highway – how the hell had her original plan to pop into the office for a couple of hours ended up with her still at her desk at 8pm ? She was furious with her team and herself. She had phoned Bette every hour with progress reports and she was glad that Bette was sounding so relaxed and unconcerned.
It did concern Tina – lately she had been having panic attacks about something happening to Bette while she was at work. Tina was determined to be with Bette from the first contraction to when their son was born. The last thing she wanted was to be stuck in a meeting or in traffic while the woman she loved was in pain.
The woman that she hoped would be her wife again by the time the birth happened – a marriage that would take them through the rest of their lives.
Tina arrived back at their home just after 9 – she was hot and feeling very stressed – two things that she knew was no good for her or the baby.
“Bette – I’m home – where are you ? “
Not getting an immediate response panicked Tina – she had sounded fine when they had spoken last – but that had been at 7:30 – so much could have gone wrong in 90 minutes.
“Bette “
The house was silent – Tina felt the cold hand of fear beginning to seize her heart. She looked around the house and stopped when she walked past the patio doors which were ajar. She stepped outside to discover Bette sitting on a recliner with Helena leaning against another recliner and Alice sitting cross legged beside the pool.

the groups scenes were always my favorite, after s1 show doesn’t have enough of them and it’s nice to see alice getting back to her old self
I do hope Bette doesn’t come to regret telling Alice that it’s safe to look.
Bette v. Alice will be good and funny; and Bette will hopefuly still be the reigning champ. I actually like Helena in this story.

IC forgot that these are fun fill ladies. The end of season 1 till the end of season3 Wasnt much fun. just using Bette as a dooemat and throwing sh&t at her. Love this / Alice does lose to Bette she just open mouth and insert leg to the hip. thanks

This was a nice added touch to view a group of friends enjoying each others company. Alice needed to have some friends listen and talk to her. Bette and Tina always seemed to be able to bring out the best in their friends. Great chapter.
Bette threw a sandwich at Alice? roflmao greatest mental picture ever Ally! just got home from long day & cheated read the l-wing first, i went from being Hot to laughing like a loon. =)
This is good and glad they enjoy the evening with friends. I laugh when Bette said “He will be my little boy until he becomes a monk at 21” and Alice is so funny too. Ok post soon please, thanks!

Ah cute – but i want to hear what alice thinks she saw – in alices usual exaggerated detail i guess? can she embarrass Bette/Tina? this could be fun !

Love this chapter, the fun I’m having reading it and I can just imagine the fun you had writing it AllyE. Let’s have a little more of it. Would really like to see Alice win one sometimes but, Bette always gets her in the end, no matter who is writing about it. Love it.

The repartee among friends is delightful. It makes them seem so human. Friends are snarky w/one another and taunt each other in a clever and funny way. I, too, hope that Alice has a victory here or at least a draw. Very enjoyable chapter. I was smiling and chuckling throughout.

Oh a cute, fun, drama-free chapter! I do have one question though: why would Tina make the effort to give up or cut down on coffee but still drink alcohol? I assume Bette didn’t drink but it seems like she would have not offered a vodka martini to her pregnant partner even if no one else knows Tina is pregnant. Maybe missed that they were virgin drinks.
