Chapter 246
Narration of First Lady Tina Kennard Porter
One of the hardest things is trying to get the President not to do something that she has hell bent on doing. I have been upstairs alone with Ella when the door opens and Lucy comes in
“Hey sis “
“Hey there – I have come with a message “
“Do tell ?”
“If I look after my niece would you go downstairs and weigh in on the Shane thing ?”
“What am I missing ?”
“A council of war from what it sounds like – Alice is tearing her hair out. She thinks that Bette would appreciate you down there as well “
“Whose down there ? “
“The Vice President, CJ, Alice and the President – Kit is on her way in and I think you should be there as someone who can keep all sides calm “
“Have you been listening ?”
“No – but Alice came out and she is upset – there are a lot of emotions going on in there”
“Okay – does Bette know that I have been sent for ?”
“I think she values your contribution – and maybe you are the only person who can deal with her when it
comes to Shane “
“How much do you know ?”
“That she is slipping further and further off the rails “
“We talked about it a lot when everyone was in Virginia – its hard for Bette “
Lucy takes Ella from me and hugs her
“Hey honey – its Lucy – can you say Lucy yet ?”
“She is only four months old “
“As Bette tells everyone she is very advanced for a four month old “
“You shouldn’t listen to Bette – I better go – where are they ?”
“The Oval “
I kiss my daughter “ You look after her “
“I always do “
“I was talking to Ella “

I go downstairs and greet James who is sitting at his desk typing away – oddly he is wearing earphones. He removes them when he sees me
